Thinking of buying this game

But I have a few questions.

I dont have the best eyesight and in IL2 cliffs of dover, I had a hard time locating targets. Warthunder arcade was great but I want the real feel of fighting in the air. So, will seeing targets be the same as IL2 cliffs of dover or is it better?

Learning to fly the planes. Is there an area were i can learn how to take off/land and control everything while flying? I did learn all that in Cliffs of dover but I didnt play it very long and its been a long time so I need to brush up.

Hit detection. How is it?

Will this be one giant map only or different maps like in Warthunder?

Lag?

Does this game have a one sided feel to it like warthunder? Like the yaks being OP over anything and everything. The devs for Warthunder killed the game by killing off the 109s.

Thanks for any help...

Well I'll do my best to answer these:

Lag?

None, even on the higher ping servers. I gotta say, I'm impressed.

It is a little one-sided with the Yak being pretty damn good, but it's all historically accurate and everything does have certain strong and weak points.

Hit Detection is great, the damage is amazing.

As for learning the planes, you can just select a single plane spawn point and fly around/practice anything you'd like.

Detecting targets, while still a bit difficult, is improved from CLoD's minuscule black dots.

That's all I know.

Heck yeah.

I'll be honest I'm a little sad at the small scope of the game, but it's completely offset by all the detail put into every nook, cranny, and crevice of the game.

Quality > Quantity

and that is only temporary :)

Small scope? Meaning what?

It's purely the Battle of Stalingrad from about December 1942 until March of 1943. It's all snow, it's all Stalingrad, and it's all the time. It means we have a really focused set of aircraft and scenarios to this period of time.

For now... the devs have stated that if those goes well then we'll probably see follow up material as well. Which I think we're all hopeful for. If things go well then I think many of us envision targeted pieces looking at different battles and producing a selection of aircraft common to each battle.

Just bought it off Steam I will soon find out.

Interesting you found the Yak dominant. Most players would probably hold that the 109's rule the roost. Each plane does have its own merits of course.

To be fair, I still haven't played too much of the game, so that's not set in stone, for me.

I like what I see so far and i have to remap the engines 1 and 2 with all the controls

running off my CH Quadrant.

Forgot to try the Tracker IR pro was fiddling around.

Less controls than Clod but it is nice.

Graphics at Ultra settings smooth and nice.

Ping is good.

So far so good I have a lot of fiddling around to do yet.

Hey I am a Founder I just noticed

I like Russian planes so it is going to hurt often without my YAK-9.

Im loving it and its not done yet, I maybe easy to please but graphics are great, MP is smooth, Im a bomber and using a Stuka 100% and having a blast (pun intended). The immersion for me is being in flight staying clear of the known furball areas I take a coarse to get alt for my bomb run, looking about never knowing when someone may spot me, then crap fighters and the dogfight begins, drop bombs and mix it up that's the best part of MP I love, that and a successful bomb run. AA is pretty deadly. You have a feeling of accomplishment just making back to base alive landing a beat up plane. Even a Stuka can lay down fire on fighters, don't have the speed or maneuverability but if your in its sights hell fire!

Many a pilot fell victim not realizing the slow speed of the Stuka if not in a dive, pass me and Im on their Six.

Anyway great fun, and more features and updates to come.

It's quite the opposite here, with Luftwaffe fighters enjoy some pretty good advantages over the VVS offerings. But, that is to say that it requires VVS players to be more opportunistic and to think a bit harder. It certainly isn't hard to do.

Not always true - I've seen plenty of warping.

It's so nice to hear these positive statements from people who have just bought BoS (I'm guessing because of the Steam launch?)

It's especially pleasant considering the large amount of negativity floating around the Steam Forum. I honestly don't get, why a few people are so upset at BoS. It's not perfect by any means but it's already a mighty good bang for your buck and very stable and bug free for a sim that's still being developed.

Even the best of net code can't fix any client's terrible internet connections.

I wouldn't worry about it too much, the Trainsim 2014 used to get a ton of abuse too (until they closed the forums) and it has obviously bought them in enough money to expand business quite significantly. I am hoping the same happens here, if so we're in for a real treat.

That, and I think a lot of the complainers have been dealt with by the community.

No really, negativity at steam forums?! It cant be! *sarcasm*

Nothing new there. :)

I just bought the game 5 minutes ago. A friend showed me the light a few days ago. Used to play 1946 on the hyperlobby(?) servers back in the day. Had no idea this game existed.

A few more questions if you guys don't mind.

Does this game have a buddy system? Id like to fly with some friends. To include Multiplier

I love that its a great sim but im hoping that its a bit easier then Cliffs of Dover, when watching my gauges and trimming ect ect. I don't mind managing a plane but i don't want to spend 40 percent of my time looking at my gauges .

Is there or will there be a practice/training area so us new guys can learn and or catch up and knock the rust off? Im pretty sure i forgot everything i have to do to take off.

What is label on and label off mean?

In Warthunder there was bad wobble when aiming down and shooting and was not joystick friendly. Any issues with this in BOS?

And finally, Are there different camera views? And can you toggle them?

Thanks again guys!!!!

Hi ReddRainn,

I'm by know means an expert on this game although have played flight sims for years (99.9% offline). This game as others have stated is great, considering its only 63% complete. I've played CLoD a lot too and this is much easier engine management wise but there is a learning curve and there is still engine management to consider but there are easier setting and servers for beginners to fly using, so I guess you could call that training.

Labels on/off is on the easier servers wereby a coloured marker appears above your plane for all to see and so you are identified as friend/foe to everyone flying.

There is no "bad wobble" when aiming unless like me you're a terrible shot and yes there are lots of different camera angles outside of your aircraft to view from again only on easier servers and offline. Hardcore servers (expert) are locked to inside the cockpit.

Seriously, get the game, it is brilliant and thats from someone who isn't brilliant flying it!

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Thanks Keeno, Maybe i can get you to join our Teamspeak soon. I could use some help. I have not picked up the game yet but i will soon. Do you have a way to contact you? Email maybe? Thanks for your help otherwise.

ReddRain,

Thanks for the reply, I haven't flown for months online (been busy) but gave it a go last night and loved it, got a few kills and got killed few times. The feeling when you're in trouble or putting someone under pressure and getting a few shots on target is intense.

I nearly always fly Russian planes as I like the "under-dog" status, to me one kill flying a Russian Yak is worth 10 flying German 109.

My problem is I've never really got into team speak (but have tried it on CLod) as I've always felt that others seem to know so much more than me when it comes to flight sims so I tend to listen more than talk, but having said that I look forward to seeing you in the virtual skies and would definately like to buddy up as it greatly improves the chances of survival.

Get the game you won't regret it and maybe we can fly together.

Good luck and cheers.

On the Stalingrad map and especially for future objective based missions; just listening in on TS without even talking is really a big plus for your team, not just for you.

You'll be able to find the hotspots where people need help, or friendly aircraft to escort/join, it'll be easier to ID aircraft ("I'm diving towards the grain silo with a 109 on my tail!") etc.
