501stJFWSanya_Litvyak3 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Type of improvement: New female player models for Russian pilots Explanation of proposals: I know that the Russian air force had some Female pilots in it, though I am not sure how many. Lidya Litvyak was even an ace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydia_Litvyak), and my suggestion is instead of only being able to fly as male pilots, let us choose to be a female pilot. I imagine this option would probably require some kind of pilot customization feature. Benefits: It brings more customization for players as well as maybe welcome female community of flyers. Also gives us a little bit more accurate representation of the Russian air force. I mean I know they weren't ALL girls but they weren't all guys is my point. 6
39bn_pavig Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) I agree that female pilots would be a good thing, for inclusion and also for historical accuracy. Unfortunately many games do not include female characters due to the work required to produce multiple character models - and it is a lot of work. I know as I have had to produce character models for other games, and convincing humans is one of the most difficult to do due to the complex bones and weights required for animation. Each tends to be custom built for the engine. Because of this (and because the developers have lots of critical work to do before the game is finished, female pilots (and character customisation in general) is probably low on the priority list. Thankfully the developers have committed to ensuring that the game will be able to be modded after release, and looking behind the scenes it seems the game is well structured to enable this. Provided the developers provide enough hooks, there should be nothing stopping the community from helping build this function, even if it doesn't end up on the roadmap for official release. IIN8II Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I agree that it would be nice to have a female pilot model for the VVS.
LastRightsXIII Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Wasn't there a poll or something a while back for this? I think it's a good idea. Welcome to BoS. S!

39bn_pavig Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 By the way, I didn't mean to imply that it was "all too hard" for the developers to add female characters, simply that character customisation is a hard thing to develop in 3D games. Some searching turned up this thread: http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/3981-would-see-option-have-choice-females-pilots/ There has already been much discussion on the subject, and I would not be surprised if female characters were available as avatars in the historical campaign.
MiG21bisFishbedL Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 To be honest, I think the real workload would be recording female VA. A player model would not be that big of a deal; just give it the standard animation set.
1CGS LukeFF Posted August 16, 2014 1CGS Posted August 16, 2014 To be honest, I think the real workload would be recording female VA. That, and I seriously doubt anyone is going to notice the difference between a male & female pilot model when flying past at 500+ km/h. Waste of time and resources.
LastRightsXIII Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 (edited) I really don't think it's about seeing the difference. It's more about a personal knowing. Waste of time and resources? Who's to really say? Maybe some time some one will find the time. Edited August 16, 2014 by LastRights13
1CGS LukeFF Posted August 16, 2014 1CGS Posted August 16, 2014 A personal knowing? C'mon, you don't see your pilot's body from the internal view, so the only way you'd really know it's a female pilot is from an external camera view or by looking really, really, really close as you zoom by another plane. Is that really worth "a personal knowing?" If/when the time comes where we can use custom pilot names in career mode, use your imagination and just enter in a female name and be done with it.
Pierre64 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 @ LukeFF :at 500+ km/h we aren't able to see most of the small details developpers have included in their simwith an amazing sense of historical and technical accuracy... However, here they are!
