kDelta Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 As is typical with my life, I look for BoS on Steam but it's not there, so I buy it from the site, then less than a day later I get an email advising me the game is on Steam. Gutted I assume from what I have read there is no way to get a key for Steam? Is that correct? May not have minded if a week or too had passed. On the plus side, at least I saved a fiver 1

Gambit21 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Why do people like Steam? What's the difference?
megamanslazar Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Why do people like Steam? What's the difference? It's a social thing. Having the game on Steam lets your friends see how many hours you've played, what achievements you have, etc. I bought the deluxe edition about a month ago. Pretty bummed I just missed the Steam release. Hopefully there's some way to transfer the license in the future.
Skid Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I don't mind that my IL2:BOS is not on Steam. This way I can leave a Steam game running on one other PC while having IL2 running on my main sim rig. No way Steam lets you run things on 2 PCs at once. I'm a big fan of GOG (Good Old Games) too. Far less restrictive. Skid
Agilepig Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I think 1C will give us steam key soon. Do not worry and wait. 1
Skid Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I don't want my IL-2:BOS on Steam... I like to be free to run different games on different PCs
Voidhunger Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 personaly I hate steam!. Bos launcher is all I need.
neuwildberry Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Why do people like Steam? What's the difference? All games through 1 application, less account management, no way to forget games you have bought on some obscure site a few years back, extremely reliable servers, high download speed etc. Whats not to like? 3
skouras Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 one thing that love about steam is that you do a repair with just a click in a matter of seconds! 1
FTC_crash1983 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 It help getting groups together because every one can see what your playing and with who, they will most likely sale more copy's of the game if they let us transfer over to steam 1

Neil Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I would like to have it on steam as well, lets hope! 2
Sethos Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Why do people like Steam? What's the difference? As mentioned, another game less to manage. If I re-install my OS, which I do often, I don't have to browse this site and log in just to download a separate launcher. However more importantly; speed. The native BOS launcher is ungodly slow which is infuriating. Especially if the retail game release and patches are released, then I have to sit through their pathetic download speeds. Which helps when I get a spur-of-the-moment flying craving, that I don't have to open the launcher and realize there's a patch, then proceed to wait 20 minutes for it to download. Steam keeps it updated, always, automatically. 1
LizLemon Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 One of the best things about steam is that it can automatically update the game. Another advantage is that it has very fast download speeds, and at least where I am 777s official updates take forever. Hopefully whatever issue it is that they have gets fixed soon. Plenty of other games have offered steam keys, some quite recently. I don't get what is holding them back. 1
216th_Peterla Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 One Steam account = one username and one password - so on any PC I have access to, now or in the future, I can play or install all (most) of my games. It's also where I maintain my gaming friendlist. I have recently started to use the family feature which means my kids have restricted access to my library - I can choose which games are available to them and whilst they're logged in my social/chat tools are disabled. Steam Game Streaming is another useful tool. If you have a lowly PC hooked up to your TV you can load a game on your gaming machine and stream it to the PC connected to your living room TV - obviously only certain games are suited to a couch/sofa style of play. I was very sceptical about the benefits of Steam when it was launched, it was rather unstable back then too but now it's proven its worth. In fact, I believe that Steam has helped keep PC gaming viable - without it gaming would have been all but relegated to a console-only pastime. Totally agree wwith this post. I refuse to get games that need Steam to activate or use in the past and now Im looking for only Steam games to buy.

I was sceptic about STEAM when it was new due to its mentioned instability etc but now its a very useful and convinient tool. Edited August 16, 2014 by TJT
-MG-Cacti4-6 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Actually, I am quite glad I bought this directly from the devs and not from steam for a number of reason. First the devs get the full check and not a portion of it, and second I don't have to deal with the constant up and down issues that steam has been prone to lately.
Sokol1 Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 One Steam account = one username and one password - so on any PC I have access to, now or in the future, I can play or install all (most) of my games. Well, since the world is not perfect, adding il-2 BoS Laucher (tick password box) shortcut to STEAM, dont make possible access the game on any PC, or STEAM files management, but allow use the friend list and some others STEAM features. My key is for EA "peasant" version - bought from 1C/777 store. Sokol1
T6-ADStukadriver Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Wait a minute...now what did I do? I clicked my usual IL2 shortcut and watched as it downloaded as usual...when it was done, I clicked on the "Play" button and got an error message saying that this file version was not comparable with my version of Windows...to ask the software publisher for assistance. Well, I have never had that message before... So...as I am impatient...I went to Steam and bought the Premium Deluxe version...it downloaded fine, and appears to work well. But...did I really have to buy this twice? I thought when I bought the Early Access when this all started, I would not have to buy what appears to be "Early Access" again. I am confused, obviously. I run - Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83 GHZ - 16 GB RAM - 64 bit OS - Win 7 Home Premium - Service Pack 1 Help please...did I do what I had to do or did I screw up?
Emgy Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Sounds like something that'll get fixed if you reinstall (&redownload) the game.
Rivet Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I considered myself very lucky that I didn't have to buy this game through Steam. In fact I have avoided certain games because the only access was through steam.
RainMan Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Why do people like Steam? What's the difference? For me, Steam is a one-stop-shop that allows me to manage my games in a simple fashion. I don't care about any social aspects, just the ease-of-use that Steam provides. 2
kongxinga Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 If this game was Steam only, I would have given it a pass. Steam lowers my utility by a whole lot.
tonycalr Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 I can't believe they released it on steam. I know I can add a non-Steam game to the library, but I prefer having my games linked to that account. It would have been nice to know that they intended on releasing it on Steam when preorders began. I would have waited to order had I known they were going to do this. I guess this is what I get for preordering. 2
Avarik Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I anticipate that earlier birds such as us who have already had the game before the Steam release will be able to use our old keys, or receive a new one to redeem on Steam, sooner or later. But if not, I don't see it as a big deal. Although I would prefer to have a Steam version available. :3 1
