Yellowsub Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Anyone switched from a TrackIR 4 Pro (with clip) to a TrackIR 5 (with Clip)? Was it a noticable improvement (smoother, better tracking etc) or a waste of money? Also does anyone know if the TrackIR 6 is right around the corner?

Yellowsub Posted August 7, 2013 Author Posted August 7, 2013 I have seen those comparisons, I am just curios if they make a difference ingame.
ST_ami7b5 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Ah, sry - can't judge, bought straight version 5. Should be more precise.
I/JG27_Zimmi Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 It definetely does. I switches from Track IR 4 to 5 pro with Track Clip only one month ago. As I have several windows and doors behind my desktop, it was always a problem for me when the sun was too bright, even if I used curtains. First of all the movement of Track IR5 is much smoother and it seems to me as if the issue with reflecting glass is also reduced.
FTC_Karaya Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 I do have severe problems with false IR sources with my TIR5, especially now during summer and even though all windows are off to my left and not in the back, curtains closed, etc. Basically means that I can only fly with TIR either in the morning or evening... noon and afternoon, forget it!
FuriousMeow Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 If you go to the Camera tab in the software you can up the light filter threshold. That got rid of problems I had with TiR picking up other sources. 1
FTC_Karaya Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I maxed it out, still does not prevent issues...
BlueHeron Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 (edited) I had the same question. TrackIR 4 is certainly sufficient, but after moving to TrackIR 5 I noticed tracking was much smoother and more natural. Immersion increased since I no longer noticed that some device was tracking my head movements, if you know what I mean. It's a bit of an expensive upgrade coming from 4, but I'm glad I did it. Yellowsub Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 I switched to the TrackIR 5 version a few days ago and I too think the head tracking is a bit smoother. That and the 190€ will make me stick with the TrackIR 5 version. However it was harder to set up than my TrackIR 4, the TrackIR 5 picks up a reflection on my glasses which the TrackIR 4 didn't do so much, also I had problems with loosing tracking while looking up. Since yesterday I seem to have found the right placement on my monitor so the tracking works fine now. Not really a fan of the new construction magnetic connection between base and Trackir seems a bit weak. The connection is so small it is harder to adjust the angle of the TrackIR.
LLv34_Untamo Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 S! <NP hater mode on> FreeeeeeeeTraaaaaaack! (with my best Mel Gibson voice ) .. Practically costs 0 monies, couple of hours of work and adjustment, and better than any TIR that my squad mates have had. No weird head-tracking disconnects in game, no sun/lamp glare problems .. etc. <NP hater mode off> Ahh... much better. And sorry about that
ATAG_Slipstream Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I still use a TiR3 vector expansion.Works ok, but I am waiting to see what happens with the Oculus Rift before I even consider getting another TiR.
steppenwolf Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I upgraded to a TrackIR5(ClipPro) after my TrackIR 4(hat clip) camera died. The TrackIR 5 seems to not mind the mirror behind me, which version 4 did. All in all, very pleased with TrackIR 5 so far(year or more??). I recommend using it with wireless headphones though, wires get all tangled.
