May I recommend a very good eastern front fighter pilot book

The War Diary Of Hauptmann Helmut Lipfert. It's kind of a hard book to find this one but easy to find online. One of the things I noticed right away was the amount of fighting. On and on and on it went and constantly moving when in retreat from the Rusians. Also I couldn't believe how many times his guns would jam! Other things like beer in external fuel tanks for moral booster, crashing into a house, surviving and laughing histarically about it but then on another day colapsing in tears when a friend is killed.

I have a special issue of a french aviation magazine with the diary of a FW-190 Schlacht pilot, a great read !

See if you can find 'Luftwaffe Fighter Ace' by Norbert Hannig.  I wouldn't claim it's better, or even as good as The War Diary Of Hauptmann Helmut Lipfert, but still is very good.

As for the Schlacht pilot I was talking about before, he's Hermann Buchner, his book, Stormbird has been published in english.

I have read the Norbert Hannig book. IIRC he flew a few missions with Bf-109 but mostly it is Eastern front FW-190. Exactly what you were searching for.
