II./JG27_Rich Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 The War Diary Of Hauptmann Helmut Lipfert. It's kind of a hard book to find this one but easy to find online. One of the things I noticed right away was the amount of fighting. On and on and on it went and constantly moving when in retreat from the Rusians. Also I couldn't believe how many times his guns would jam! Other things like beer in external fuel tanks for moral booster, crashing into a house, surviving and laughing histarically about it but then on another day colapsing in tears when a friend is killed. http://www.amazon.com/War-Diary-Hauptmann-Helmut-Lipfert/dp/0887404464 1
SYN_Ricky Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 (edited) That's a good one indeed! I was looking for some diary of an eastern front FW-190 fighter pilot, if there's one. Anyone with a suggestion? I have a special issue of a french aviation magazine with the diary of a FW-190 Schlacht pilot, a great read ! Edited August 6, 2013 by SYN_Ricky 1
ThudThunder Posted August 6, 2013 Posted August 6, 2013 Not necessarily an eastern front book, but I heard "The Few" was pretty good.

I wouldn't claim it's better, or even as good as The War Diary Of Hauptmann Helmut Lipfert, but still is very good. 1

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see if I can get my hands on that one As for the Schlacht pilot I was talking about before, he's Hermann Buchner, his book, Stormbird has been published in english.
rolikiraly Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 I have read the Norbert Hannig book. IIRC he flew a few missions with Bf-109 but mostly it is Eastern front FW-190. Exactly what you were searching for.
