germanicusgermanicus1936 Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Many ac as above but I want the Fw 189. If unfamiliar please google..it was low, slow, hard to shoot down ,recon, well armed and should give interesting Army coop missions. 1

hiro Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 BF-109, fits like a glove and versatile, first plane in IL-2 I felt at home with P-39 its good all around, and the spin thing is great to learn recovery A-20 the only bomber which i managed to shoot down a fighter, plus its good for mud moving P-38, climbs like a homesick angel Mosquito , best troll plane, you can outrun most fighters, bomb stuff, heck even BnZ . . . battle of leyte gulf, my dad watched it with his own eyes and drew him (and later me to aviation)

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) - Ju 87 B and D (cant decide which one is prettier) - SB-2C Helldiver - B-29 Superfortress - Bf 110 G - Ju 52 Favourite battle would be any pacific battle with carriers and the 'Island Hopping' campaign. HBPencil Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Top five aircraft (that actually saw service in the war) in no particular order: 1. Spitfire PR.XIX (chariot of the Gods) 2. F4U Corsair (good all-rounder that looks bad-ass, especially in a weathered 3 tone navy scheme) 3. I-16 (interwar racer type with guns) 4. SBD-5 (its great record aside, I can't put my finger on why but I have a soft spot for it, also liked flying it in '46) 5. Ki-84 (great lines, it floats my boat) Favourite battle: sorry, I can't decide.
[PFR]Sarpalaxan Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 - PE-2 110 - HE 111 H6 - I-16 - PE-8 - Sunderland Maybe not the most Effective choices but Damm do they look good and the I-16 is just so much funn to kick arround at the edge of compleet loss of controll.
CrazyDuck Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Whoah I could barely limit myself to 5 for a specific nation or a specific aircraft class! Anyhow, one per nation: 1. IL-2 (single seater) 2. Ki-67 3. He 100 4. P-47 5. Macchi M.C. 200
=27=Davesteu Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) Good to know my mindset changed little over the past five years. Just don't know whether I'd still include the Avenger. A very cool looking aircraft, but probably not Top 5. More likely something IJAAF or maybe VVS. Honestly, it's nearly impossible to name my top five. There are just too many rating scales... What scenario & aircraft are you least interested in? Edited July 4, 2018 by =27=Davesteu
angus26 Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 If I had to choose (looks wise), I’d go with the p-26 peashooter, the tbf avenger, the i-16, the Fi-156, and the Halifax.
ITAF_Rani Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 -Me 109..killer -Mc 205.. the most beautiful italian plane -FW190 D9...intrigued me when I red the Closterman' s book "the big show" -P51D.... WW2 air hero!! -Spitfire .....simply perfect.!! MTO 1943
Rjel Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 It is interesting going through these posts after 5 years that a lot of us have been on this website. I think my 5 picks would still be my picks today even though I've grown accustomed to flying many different Axis and Allied A/C. As has always been my trait, my "favorite" will change based on my current readings or possibly some documentary I may have watched that recently. My only constant would still be the P-51.
-TBC-AeroAce Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) Mine would be my own pesonal jet with lady air hosts. I'm not really bothered about what jets as long as the ladies are there and the pilot is doing all the flying. O bother only war planes. Unfair me thinks Edited July 4, 2018 by AeroAce 2
Legioneod Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 1. P-47 Thunderbolt 2. B-24 Liberator 3. B-26 Marauder 4. P-51 Mustang 5. B-17 Flying Fortress Battle of Peleliu - A battle that never really needed to be fought but resulted in the highest casualty rate of any battle in the Pacific War.
Herne Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 1. Spitfire (all types) 2. Typhoon 3. Mosquito 4. JU-87 all types 5. FW 190 D9 Favourite theatre :- Battle of Britain. (would love to see it in great battles one day) I always thought the B-17 was a good looking bird, but in my mind she deserves a bit of extra love, something along the lines of the "mighty 8th", but re- imagined with modern tech
303_Bies Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 1. Fw190 2. Corsair 3. Tempest V 4. Me 262 5. Spitfire Pacific with lagunas, islands paradise, deep blue sky and warm water 1
Tyberan Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 - ME-262 - FW190-D9 - Beaufighter - B-17 - CAC-13 Boomerang Favourite theatre is a hard one but I'll go with the North Africa, my grandfather having served with RAAF No.3sqn from 1942 until they moved to Italy makes it a personal interest
Screamer Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 - Fokker D.XXI (complete obsession, Dutch pride, 1930's stuff, kicked red ass in Finland) - Bf109 (disliked it for years but simming made me really like it. Most versions climb great, nice concentrated nose weapons (i really dislike western allied wing placement) - Mosquito (wooden multirole wonder) - Ju87 (what's not to love about an ugly dive bomber) - Spitfire (Duh)
[LeLv34]Lykurgos88 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 German: - Me-262 A-1 Schwalbe . The original jet figher beast, a favorite all the way since childhood and featured in a game called "European Air War" (1998) - Me-410 B-1 Hornisse. Probably the best 2-engine heavy fighter of Luftwaffe and possessing good looks and armament. Rarely featured in video games! =( Soviet: - Mig-3 ud. Will always have a place in my heart. It looks like real racer aircraft. Too bad it wasn't good enough in combat to develop further. - Yak-3. Probably the best pure dogfighter of WW2. Amazing Power/weight ratio, excellent turn/roll rates and an outrageous climb rate make it a real winner. British: - Tempest V. Its ridiculously sized intake gives it a feeling of uncompromising power. Tempest V is like an unstoppable force of nature. American: - P-63 C-5 KingCobra. The unorthodox solution of moving engine behind the cockpit gives it a unique and dazzling look. The lenghtier frame (compared to P-39) makes it more menacing also. - P-61 B-20 Black Widow. The criminally underrepresented powerhouse with radar, night fighting capabilities and scary electrically controlled 4-barrel gun turret. It makes me so sad to see it being so rare in games. Japanese: - Ki-61-I Tei "Tony". Very exceptional looking japanese fighter with its inline engine compared to the common radials used in pretty much all other IJA&N planes. It's sleek, stylish and its later revisions were dangerous too in the armament department. 1
JG5_Zesphr Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 1) Mossie 2) FW190A 3) A-26 theatre: Malta and the north Africa campaign
dkoor Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Like most of you guys, I also like many WW2 airplanes. I flew some obscure types a lot in IL-2 1946, types that rarely anyone thinks about when someone says "WW2 airwar" - namely Fokker D.XXI and Brewster... but for the fun of it here is my list; 1. Bf-109 (Gustav) 2. P-38 (J) 3. F6F (3 or 5) 4. Typhoon (Mk.I) 5. Ki-100 (Otsu) Theaters? They do not necessarily align with my aircraft choice... Pacific, preferably mid-war to late war part... if I have to single something out, I'd say perhaps Palau 1944... Although I don't really have some favourite regarding this.
Porkins Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Whoa, necro thread. Just want to give props to Jason (5 years ago) putting the Black Widow in his top planes list. That gal is dead sexy.
PatrickAWlson Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 FW190A. I have always loved that compact airframe. I like the Wildcat and Oscar for similar reasons. P38. A unique looking airplane. It has a real look of speed. P51. Sleek plane. Smooth lines. honorable mention: I16. Cool 1930s look. Massive radial engine on a stubby frame. Looks like a 1930s racer. Spitfire: Love the wings (not the clipped ones). So many others. 1
Gambit21 Posted July 5, 2018 Posted July 5, 2018 Seeing the Zeke fly in person once a year (this year 2 at once) always just reaffirms my love for this aircraft. The class of the skies in 1942; and drop dead gorgeous.
Ribbon Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 1. Yak-3/1b 2. Spitfire mk.9/16 3. B-17 / PBY Catalina / A20 / He111 / Ju88 4. Ki-43 / F4U Corsair 5. P-51 / Me109 /Fw190 Woow they all fitted! Fav battle: 1.Pacific (Midway) and early ones as someone mention with all those tropical islands and warm waters, flying above open sea and searching for ship trails. 2. BoB 3. BoK 1
[CPT]milopugdog Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 I've got an odd thing for sea planes, so that'll be what I'll talk about: 1. SC-1 Seahawk. It was a late war design for ship launched aircraft. Arguably the best of them, though. It was capable of having radar, carrying bombs, and transferring personnel. The aircraft arrived too late to see any real action, and were eventually replaced by helos. None exist today. 2. PBY Catalina. As far as I can tell, this sea plane needs no introduction. I saw one take off and land at KBFI last summer during Seafair, pretty cool deal! (I liked it more than the Blue Angels, personally) 3. F4F-3S Wildcatfish. Float plane variant of the F4F, didn't really go anywhere, but I think it's cool. 1
LLv34_adexu Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 1. Bf 109-F4, agile and good firepower, even called my cat Franz because of that. And other variants I just love these planes, the design, the motors, how advanced they were in the beginning compared to other planes. 2. Fw-190 A3-A5, really nice plane of it's time. 3. P-47, the firepower and dive speed. Dunno why, but always loved that plane. 4. Spit I-V. The arch enemy of my beloved planes. 5. La-5FN. The arch enemy number two. I like the look and character. How fast SU got the plane competitive. Theatres: BoB, the most even battle between 109E's and Spit1's. Both planes had strength and weaknesses. I like the even terms of fights. Also everyone know stories about 110s and Hurricanes. Other is Africa. Pretty even match up in the air too.
F/JG300_Gruber Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 Well, hard to give a frozen list, sometimes planes goes up and down the ranking depending on the mood. But based on the most consistent places : 1) He111 I'm usually a big fan of Günter brothers early designs. They had always put a lot of thoughts in their planes, even if some are a bit overengineered. The 111 is my true love and the plane that got me into level bombing. I never get bored of being in the glazed nose, I just feel at home in that plane. 2) B29 Just another beauty of the sky, I hope one day to be able to hop aboard Fifi or Doc for a ride. 3) Ju88 series, one plane to do it all. I like it's versatility and ruggednesss, though I have a special attraction towards the S series. 4) Do335 Awesome performance and look, despite rear engine reliability issues. 5) Ju87 B and D I can't not include it in my list, wonderful aircraft in every aspect (escept, maybe, top speed) I don't have a particular favorite battle, but I like the mediterranean theater of operation. 1
[TWB]Sauerkraut- Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 (edited) 1) F4U Tiny airframe - big engine. Also, there's just something about that gull wing. 2) F-82 Why have one mustang when you can have two? 3) La-5 My favorite soviet fighter. I would love flying it too if I could hit the side of a barn from the inside with it, but I can't. 4) Fw-190 Absolutely beautiful engineering. Above that, being in the cockpit makes it feel as though it was something designed decades later than it was. 5) Spitifre Non-aviation buffs: *Sees any WW2 fighter*. "Is that a Spitfire?" <-- That's how iconic this plane is. I would have to say Midway. The war in the Pacific has always been of great interest to me, since I'm also a bit of a naval buff. RNAS10_Oliver Posted July 6, 2018 Posted July 6, 2018 (edited) Fairey Fulmar Fairey Swordfish Blackburn Skua Fairey Albacore Supermarine Seafire I know I'm weird right. However other than the Fulmar it's an tough question, and could be in any order. Got to be something naval though. Edited July 6, 2018 by Oliver88
P51DMatt Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 1. P-51D For obvious reasons ? 2. ME-163 Technological marvel at the time. 3. A6M Zero Embodies everything the Japanese were. Has almost a ninja-like quality, which is extremely cool IMO. 4. P-47 The quintessential example of a multi-role fighter aircraft. Could take an absolute hell of a beating. 5. FW-190 Such a sleek, cool beast of a plane.
