1CGS LukeFF Posted November 19 1CGS Posted November 19 Hello everyone! Please read the news about our new forums here:
Aapje Posted November 19 Posted November 19 What is the exact impact going to be? Apparently, the content won't be transferred, but is the forum software going to be the same? Are all categories/sections be the same on the new forum? Will CloD still be hosted on the new forum? Secondly, what happens if people 'steal' nicknames from others? This offers a big opportunity for trolling or even fraud, by taking the name of a trusted forum member. Will we be guaranteed to be able to keep our existing nicknames? Finally, I like seeing the owned modules. Have you considered creating a voluntary solution for this, where people add the owned modules to their profile, and this then results in the icons being shown? According to ChatGPT, this can be done for this forum by creating a custom profile field with type Checkbox Set or Multiple Select. And then adding this field to the post template should automatically loop over all selected values. Then using a Display Format like this should show the correct images: <img src="/uploads/badges/{content}.png" style="max-width:80px;"> If ChatGPT is correct, this is probably not all that much work. The advantage of this solution is that it will work for Steam players as well. The downside is that it requires manual work for the user to show the badges. 1 1

Stonehouse Posted November 19 Posted November 19 (edited) Is there a way to save/download to html PM's? and also Are files which are hosted on this forum going to still be available to download going forward? Found the answer to this one in the IL2 General discussion thread on the forum move - basically answer is yes but download anything you particularly want to have in case something goes wrong. nachinus Posted November 20 Posted November 20 I want to think that this means the release announcement is imminent. 🙂
Missionbug Posted November 20 Posted November 20 Sorry if this has been asked but what about access to our existing games and the store, does that remain unchanged or are we going to have to change everything there just to get back that access to what we already paid for and use or is this just a forum thing? All the best, Pete.

Nothing will change with your game login. They will just make a separate login for the new forum. 1

=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I was in the hospital and dealing with that fun these past couple months, and I'm used to using alternate spellings anyways in alts and such, but if people miss the launch date is there a way for people to get their original name if someone unoriginal grabs it?
MajorMagee Posted November 21 Posted November 21 I can't imagine any possible way for them to do that.

Probably not. If your name is something generic for this sort of forum (i.e. calling yourself 'Wolf'-something, or incorporating an ace's name, you aren't likely to get anywhere. If it looks like deliberate impersonation, that's another matter. You may still not get your name back, since forum software tends not to facilitate it (and there might be legal issues) but whoever is responsible could find themselves in deep trouble.

I doubt they'll want to spend much time trying to figure out who is the 'original' in most circumstances, and it isn't exactly welcoming to join a forum, innocently pick a name you were entirely unaware of was being used on another forum which is no longer in active use, and have a moderator tell you you've got to change it. Which is more or less bound to happen on occasion if the mods involve themselves in this. It would help if signatures were re-enabled, since you could use it to tell people who you were on the old forum. Failing that, leave a note in your first few posts if there's user-name issues.
