[Warship]MidnightLightnin Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Just started to fly the P51 B and I am getting "watch engine temperature" warnings but the Oil and Water temps on the cockpit dashboard all look to be in teh green - in fact they gauges never seem to move. What am I missing? Any advice on how to fly these planes to get max performance. I'm in the EU server where a lot of engine settings are on auto. Are there things I should set to manual and if so what are they? Thanks
easterling77 Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Hm.. the oil and water radiators are automated, so they should handle this by themselves. Did you get the warning "watch engine temperature" by the so called "aditional tips" option enabled or do you get the warning "engine overheating"? I never had an overheating mustang except when radiators where damaged

The RPM limiter is off on the server, don't know if that is implicated. Just seems really odd that even if I run the engine flat out and close the radiators manually the temperature gauges never move?
MaxPower Posted November 16 Posted November 16 Just dropping the P-51 B engine mode info here in case it's an instance of running the engine at max rpm or high boost. The engine also has a 'boost mode' controlled by the boost button. Did you know that? I didn't before I looked at the documentation. Documentation just says it exists, I didn't catch what it actually does though. Engine modes: Cruise (unlimited time): 2700 RPM, 46 inch Hg Combat power (up to 15 minutes): 3000 RPM, 61 inch Hg WEP (up to 5 minutes): 3000 RPM, 67 inch Hg WEP with 150 grade fuel (up to 5 minutes): 3000 RPM, 75 inch Hg 1

If you give the P-51 throttle and RPM to max, you "only" get Combat power (up to 15 minutes): 3000 RPM, 61 inch Hg. Pressing the boost button unlocks the manifold pressure limit and you get WEP (up to 5 minutes): 3000 RPM, 67 inch Hg. So basically, the boost button is used to activate WEP mode. It does what would you expect from a boost. It temporarily increases the engine's power. Edited November 16 by Kubert

Most planes allow WEP without clicking a button. I don't think that other Merlin powered airplanes have this feature. I was wondering if it has something to do with water injection or if Mustangs historically just had an extra throttle button.
easterling77 Posted November 16 Posted November 16 (edited) Out of my memories: Hurricane MK II: Button Spitfire Mk Vb: Button Spittfire Mk IX/XIV: No button - Mk XIV has a Griffon Engine Mustang B: Button Mustang D: No button Edited November 16 by easterling77 1 1
