Career: call me Brave Sir Robin!

I'm having a pretty good career right now as a French pilot with N62. I have 7 enemy aircraft and two balloons to my credit.

I had an interesting mission yesterday. I was part of a flight, not the leader, on a free hunt mission. As soon as we crossed the lines, the rest of my flight seemed to go after two nearby German balloons. There were no EA (enemy aircraft) around so, while keeping an eye on the rest of my flight, I made several passes and eventually flamed one of the balloons.

Right after that, I spotted six Halb. D.IIs heading our way. They were actually about 500 feet below me. Some of my flight were milling about a mile or so away. I tried to get their attention by shooting a flare, but I'm not sure that actually works with AI teammates (does it?).

So I stayed high and circled the Halbs hoping to find one that I could swoop down and pick off, but they stayed together and circled. I also looked for the rest of my flight, but nobody was around.

At that point I ran. 🎵 Brave Sir Robin, he ran away . . . 🎶

The Halbs couldn't catch me, but they followed me all the way back home.

Anyway, the strange thing -- other than losing the other members of my flight, four of whom were shot down -- was that I got the "Objective completed" message. However, when I landed (and ground looped, see my other thread), I got a failed mission. Why would I have a failed mission after shooting down a balloon and meeting the primary objective?

Thanks!
