To protect against cheating, newly saved multiplayer missions in .msnbin format can no longer be opened in the editor (.mission files can still be opened for future edits). Previously, it was possible to examine missions received from the server in the editor to gain an unfair advantage over other players;

This as a toggleable feature for a mission in the editor by the mission maker to lock down the content would have been fine - and useful for special events/campaigns

As released, this prevents players from recieving openable files without hosting the .mission file to them via a separate interface such as dropbox, or directly through the server which makes the missions load incredibly slow for everyone.

Also since it's rather common for missions to get corrupted over time through successive small edits.  It is less likely for the mission to be recoverable at that point because if the .mission file fails you are screwed and your work is forever lost.

Frankly, very bad design.

Very bad new for noob editors like me, that used that option to see how veteran editors constructed missions and try to learn from them. I know it is always possible to contact with the editor and ask for the .mission file, but it was practical. 😑

I understand it is good to avoid cheating in some servers, though.

From DD #374:

„Six new types of combat missions include intercepting the airship and assaulting and bombing airship bases for the Entente - German pilots will cover the airship's passage across the front line and defend the Zeppelin bases.“

Are all these missions included already? I ask because can’t find em in the changelog.

In your FC deluxe offer you talk  about 39 planes in the package are included.
I didn’t find the Fokker D.VII F.

Are you sure you sell even 40 planes in this package? 😜

Edit: + two variants of Spad VII, = 41 planes 😜

I really hope that I've still got the '.mission' files of my formerly created missions somwhere in my cloud or on my hdd available.

In case _not_ I can only hope, that the 'knowledge' saved in my brain will fill the gap between what I've created in former times and what I want to create now...

I also think, that is the right step to prevent cheating

But it also disables mission creators to benefit from 'what has been created in missions'  directly

Bit of a dumb question maybe, but how do we make the Zeppelin move? Its listed as a aerostat in the editor, and you cant assign waypoints to it like a plane.. What am I missing?

If you "Create Linked Entity" you turn it into something you can assign waypoints/coalitions/etc. to.  Thats how we make the regular balloons go up and down - vertical waypoints.

My first exploratory test when I update outside of testing it's flight characteristics for hovering ascent and descent via ballast/gas releases for pathing will be to see if I can get the Zeppelin to shoot itself with a fire flare command and burn itself down.

Ah, perfect, thanks Its working now! Am not used to having to do it manually like that with the waypoint MCU... in fact I think this is the first time in 15 years of mission editing that I have actually used that MCU! I usually just Shift-Click once the vehicle is selected...  😄

Tip: The Zeppelin hunting is very dramatic if you select 'broken clouds' and an appropriate type of cloud at a similar altitude as the Zeppelin... there is nothing quite like an airship trying to escape you by diving into a cloud!

That's funny, I in turn for 15 years have never ever used a shift-click shortcut to place waypoints.  Today we both learned something.

Excellent update!

The mission editor now works faster and the cheating protection is always useful. And we can just ask the editor for the files, if neded :)

PS: Thanks for the Me 410 engines update! and another one for the 109!

Dumb question, but how do I set up an anti-zeppelin mission in the QMB/AQMG?

Also noticed the payload dropdown is empty and there are no options.. does this thing have no bombs, or is there only one payload so you cant select anything here?

Yes because I custom name all my waypoints for QA/Testing - just like the vast majority of other mission triggers and objects.  That way when I come back into the mission a year or two later I can remember how it works.

Edit:
The Zeppelin has no bombs?!?!!?!?!?!   😒

okay, yeah that makes sense. You can still rename them after the fact when creating by shift-clicking, but if you are creating a lot then I guess making one manually and then copy-pasting a bunch of them and batch OL'ing them is pretty quick as well...

I'ld like to comment myself....

As from now on 'loaded' missions can no longer be analyzed (due to prevent cheating, which is absolutely OK for me)

these missions can also no longer be analyzed to learn from _what_ and how_ it was realizes for mission creators.

And I really hope, that everybody who created a 'mission' would send the 'text' file in case requested

to help other mission creators to understand and lear from what was one in that mission...

I'm obviously missing something, but I can't see any way to set up Zeppelin hunting missions at all. Do I have to start a career, and hope one appears eventually?

About this:

„To protect against cheating, newly saved multiplayer missions in .msnbin format can no longer be opened in the editor (.mission files can still be opened for future edits). Previously, it was possible to examine missions received from the server in the editor to gain an unfair advantage over other players;“

However, I see the developers as obligated to implement a simple way to determine the terrains elevation. Unlike in single-player mode, only a few online servers offer this information. I need this information for a precise attack, especially with accurate equipment like the Stuvi or the BZA, but also for high-altitude bombardment.

Implementing this information in the mouse cursor on the map (as in another simulation) would be one solution…

I am just playing with it in the mission editor at the moment.. it sounds like the actual single player missions are coming in a future update, so all that is available now seems to be the career missions, but I can maybe throw something together for you quickly once I figure out how to make the zeppelin bomb something..

I'm not seeing it either. I only have Volume I and II. Do I need III and or IV?

While the mission editor opens .mission files a touch faster then before, it can no longer open .msnbin files - when you attempt to it gives this error message:

image.png.aede45cb37f1f38f8ba90de42de8fd75.png

This is a huge headache (and potentially a catastrophe for anyone who doesn't have a copy of their original .mission file) as you generally delete your .mission files on a multiplayer server in order to reduce download times for players joining the server.  Can we get a hotfix for this?

Old singleplayer msnbin files will still open, only the multiplayer ones saved from now on won't, so you should be able to open your old singleplayer works even if you don't have the original .mission files.

UPD: Edited for clarity.

You shouldn't according to the update 6.107 notes linked above: "All Flying Circus owners have already received the airship and all map updates - no additional purchases are needed"

Thanks Flashy. Anything that at least lets me see the beast, and hopefully get it burning, will satisfy my curiosity for now. I'd have another go at using the mission editor myself if (a) I hadn't already forgotten what little I'd learned so far, and (b) I'd got a bit more sleep over the last few days. I'm not exactly complex-stuff-enabled right now, and poking holes in a massive German sausage is probably about the limit of my capabilities.

As I posted above, this does not work.  I have dozens of older missions where I deleted the .mission file in order to speed up downloads for users on my server.  Now I've got to dig through archive and backups to open them again.

As it is stated in the changelist: "The AI-controlled Zeppelin R airship is available as a target in the new “Intercept Zeppelin” mission type in the careers for the Spad 7 and Nieuport 17 for the French squadrons N103, N12, N26, N31, N48, N62, N23, N3, and British No.19 from 1916 to 1917".

You can get a day or night intercept. Other mission types are planned to be in the next update in December.

Sneaksie,
Not only is this currently not appearing to work (resaver tool is creating corrupted files), now we somehow have to try and remember whats been updated and is locked vs what remains unlocked?

This setting should be able to be set by the mission creator at will through the editor regarding whether to lock or not.

I want multiplayer server missions open so people can learn from them and look at them.  Special campaign/event maps, sure, I'd love to lock but we've also survived years with no capaciy to lock them previous to this.  Flipping this long standing policy now doesn't help new people coming to the game learn to build missions in the editor.

Sounds like it is not working this way for people. Can you (have someone) look into it?

Yes, I'd read that. How common are they though? Realistically, they probably shouldn't be many, but I suspect people will want to get in on the action quickly. Hence me wondering whether there should have been a QMB option.
