RedGuard Posted November 8 Posted November 8 Howdy All, Been away from the IL2 series for quite some time, and dedicated the little sim-time I have to modern jets in another sim 😛 The WWI itch has once again become unbearable and planning to re-install FC. However, I have limited disk space available... I do not wish at this time to install the full sim and all the WWII packages I purchased over the years but the Installer did not seem to offer the option to choose which packages to install. How can I actually select to install my FC packages only? Appreciated if someone can throw me a bone ! Cheers, Red
RedGuard Posted November 8 Author Posted November 8 Thx Mitchell, Oh well, so I'm stuffed. That's disappointing and quite irritating!!!... Mighty oversight from the Devs / Publisher, if anyone asks me. Red

I agree, for someone who is only interested in ww1, it's ridiculous to have to have the entirety of BoX forced on your system. Disc space may be fairly cheap these days, but it's not always that simple. There's always good old RoF ! S!
Cynic_Al Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Unless I have misunderstood things embarrassingly, the footprint is the same regardless of the modules owned, with each one authorised by one's account. Good old RoF is essentially the same in this respect. Doing it differently would complicate things.

It's the best solution to your dilemma unless you increase disk space. However, one option contains expense and inconvenience. The other doesn't. Your choice.

It would also increase the size of a full installation, since it would need additional code to check what was present etc. Keeping software simple even if it doesn't always make the best use of resources is often to the customers benefit.

But they're not the same beast. It takes my (ageing admittedly) system 13 seconds to boot up RoF vs. 1 minute 30 seconds for BoX. My RoF install is just over 60Gb vs. BoX's 136Gb. Skin packs make up 6.37Gb of my RoF install, but I'm surprised it takes BoX 7x longer to load up than RoF when the install is little over double the disk space ? Anyway, I don't know about the technical aspects of software development, so if that's how it has to be.. I'll defer to the nerds ! S!
Aapje Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Startup time probably won't change if not all content is installed, since it is not actually loaded into memory on startup. 1
