Color of chevron on BF-109.

I know how symbols and colors in the Luftwaffe's fighter squadrons work, but I am not sure about leader's chevron. I always see only black or white on illustrations. When I start a career as Gruppe commander and the game gives me a staffel with yellow numbers, what is historically accurate for leader's chevron? Black/white or should it match colors of the other planes in the staffel?

The Gruppekommandeur's chevron is always black and white. This is because he isn't part of the Staffel; he is in the "staff unit" of the Gruppe.
