Dagwoodyt Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Been a while since I've seen discussion of ground handling in CloD vs other sims. Today I tried a takeoff in Blitz in a Spitfire 1A 100 Oct. First issue encountered was TiR causing difficulty in getting stable view of elevator and rudder trim wheels. Further, it seems there may be a mismatch between the physical switches I use for trim and the related trim wheel animations. I am using a Rhino FFB base and TPR pedals. There also seems a disconnect between the amount of stick/pedal movement and related AC reaction. Control movements feel extremely mushy. I don't have similar issues in either GB or DCS VR. The DCS Spitfire IX is great fun to just do takeoffs and landings in since fine control of trim is so easy to achieve. Trim wheel animations correspond well to movements of my trim switches. I can sense differences in crosswind effects depending on which end of the runway I use for landing. Throttle control with a two turn pot is fine enough to get touchdowns without tire smoke or chirp. It's as though the controllers are mostly overkill in CloD.
FTC_Rostic Posted November 4 Posted November 4 Yeah, what is really terribly implemented in CloD is ground handling. That is for sure. Feels very synthetic. More like random jerking than physics computations. Luckily I do not spent much time on the ground
II./JG27_Rich Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) I don't mind Cliffs ground handling. I have always had one big gripe with sims accept one ...DCS. I have it with this one too. Edited November 4 by II./JG27_Rich

I have it with this one too. RC model aircraft or full size, smooth takeoff and especially landing are demanding and critical phases of flight. Student pilots and instructors spend countless hours discussing technique. It's a real immersion killer for me if those flight phases are not modeled in a believable manner. I'm only asking whether my observations about CloD correspond to what others are experiencing. If takeoff and landing are not that important to others' enjoyment of the sim, that's great🙂
II./JG27_Rich Posted November 5 Posted November 5 (edited) I listen to pilots who fly the real thing and see how it compares to the ones in our sims. I fly 109s and the most terrifying one to takeoff is the K-4 in DCS. When I started I was tearing my hair out trying to get off the ground. However like the pilot says at the Messeschmitt museum once you get it up it's a lot of fun Edited November 5 by II./JG27_Rich 1
