Hello, I would like to start flying all three of the Yak 1 series fighters but have a couple of questions first. How do you open the coolers in  settings? I'm a new person so key command settings seem rather vague. From what I understand you just open them then leave them alone. My question is at what percentage do you have them open.

Thanks...

There is not one ideal percentage. It is more constant checking and tweaking. In the summer it will work, to have radiators fully opened at maximum all the time, for a cost of some speed due to increased drag. But in the winter, when temperature is -20°C or so, it is possible to overcool the engine with low throttle or steep dive when radiators are fully opened. I am flying without technochat and adjusting them here and there. The engine can survive if you overheat or overcool it slightly for a short period of time. You don't need to be fixated at precise number or temperature. Just from time to time check temps and it will be OK.

As kubert said above, water and oil radiator settings change, depending on how and where youre flying the aircraft. If you are just hooning around with max manifold and RPM in summer, yes, you will probably have them wide open. In that sort of scenario, I usually pull the engine settings back a bit, allowing me to close the radiators up a bit and have a more stream lined aircraft.

from my experience you can set the oil radiator to 50% an leave it there.

and then just adjust the water radiator mid flight.

The Yak-9 also has a climb setting in its manual: 910mm/2400rpm. which you could you  for less stress on the engine

I guess this setting from a manual is for real Yaks, to lengthen their engines life expectancy. It's don't need to be done in the game, because we get factory new engine for every mission.
