Setting up Channel bomber intercept mission using EMG v 09. Here's what parameters look like.

mission setup.jpg

When launched Germans are practically over Dover and my flight of Hurricanes is over FRENCH coast near Wissant!!

I Guess I need clarification on items marked in red. Even after adjusting Target Area on map and placing it right off coast near Dover here's what dispositions look like upon launch.

Small suggestion, just an example:

(I have used the target area option, place target area with left mouse)

adjusting Target Area on map

I think there is also a distinction between "near the target" and target area. I believe when you say "near the target" it actually means the spawn will be near the randomly chosen objective for the mission and has nothing to do with the target area circle. I guess Vander could change the text to near the objective but the phrase "near the target" predates the target area circle by several years and many versions of EMG.

When you say "in target area" then the random choice of objective is limited to within the circular area shown on the map. Probably with the caveat to choose the closest eligible objective if the target area doesn't contain the type selected. I know I have chosen "airfield" "in the target area" and the circle wasn't correctly located to contain an airfield and you still get a mission created.

Target location is based on where the aircraft start and somewhere in the EMG thread there is an explanation from Vander of what close, intermediate and distant means for choosing the random objective. I am also not sure there is a connection between your mission and the enemies. For example, if each side specifies a bombing attack the locations for each side will be often quite distant from each other.

I think perhaps you were looking to intercept the bombers and this is where Kraut1's suggestion may help you as it forces the choice of objective for both sides to be limited to in or near the circle. Notice also he has chosen Hawkinge at the edge of the circle for the Allied flight tasked with interception. Possibly there is an opportunity for an EMG enhancement such that if intercept is chosen it is possible to select the enemy flight specifically. I could be wrong but think Kraut1's method is as close as we have to that right now.

In general the target Locations: close, distant and in target area are working well, intermediate sometimes creates issues.

From what I know the intercept flight has always the enemy lead flight as the target. So in some respect for the UK flights "close" should have worked too.

The Target area is very helpful if you want to create a scramble / airfield defense mission.

To get a bit more variation you can select just as an example random for the (bombing) target and Randmize for for the German airfield.
