Midair Collisions

Is there any mod that reduces the number of midair collisions when flying in formation? If so, can any kind soul point me to it?

Thank you!

As not so kind soul i experimented with midair crashing between allies once. Press F12 and F11 to zoom in on the unfortunate event.

Its not an Ai happening, and spent some  time to make it work. Resaved for 6,107: Mid Air Crash v2a.zip

PS the weird thing is that both planes explode already just before the actual crash.

This depends on the individual plane type and the current AI settings of IL-2 that are from time to time changed / optimized.

For some few plane types the AI settings could be  close to critical flight conditions.

1 general example for such an Mod:

https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/92900-mod-revised_cruisingclimbing_speedsfor_il2bos/

For example 2 years ago as far as can remember there was an AI issue for bombers flying in formations while climbing.

An preliminary solution was to reduce the fuel / bomb load.

If you observe an issue for an specific plane type you could try to change some ai parameters.

Here a zip with comparable new ai files:

Be aware though that AI parameters can have more than a single impact in game. For example, one parameter I know can reduce the incidence of head on collisions but also tends to mean no more head on attacks at all.

Also, there are formation spacing options available in the editor that are not available for the formation leader orders.

eg You can order a V formation in mission for your AI wingmen but only in the editor can you set the spacing - Dense, Safe and Loose. The default is Dense (which is close spacing). Obviously Dense for particularly larger aircraft can be problematic.

Not trying to hijack this tread, but is there any parameters that allow controls on flatspin recovery or friendly fire avoidance for AI?

FYI, I added the suggestion of allowing formation spacing orders to be added to the formation leader orders. I would not have thought it a costly feature to implement as it would seem the back end of the game already has the logic in place but obviously, I could be wrong. However, it is more likely to be added if lots of people indicate they like the idea. Suggestion post link below.

@AcesDarthBubu Not that I have seen while working on my various mods.
