Just out of interest ( please no political debate !) - which side do you fly, and why ?

 

Me, personally, I am flying the german side.

 

This is probably simply because I am german and it somehow feels weird to fly the other side.

( despite of the fact I am absolutely thankful to all RAF/USAAF/SOVIET pilots that freed Germany from nazi asshole regime )

 

I tried Spits and Yaks, but it 'somehow' feels wrong. Strange, isn't it ?

How do you handle this ?

When I can be bothered to fly, I would say the RAF will always be my favourite, I will fly for the opposition at times. I don't fly much on the Soviet side, but I do like the Polikarpovs...

I enjoy flying everything. If the airplane feels wrong I spend more time with until it starts feeling right.

 

But if I had to choose one side I believe I'd go german, Fw190 being the main reason.

I fly Allied mostly, but I can fly the Axis birds if needed.  I do enjoy the Mc.202 the most of the Axis birds.

Now, when we get to the Pacific, you will likely find me flying for the Emperor.  Why?  Well if it plays out like it did in the old IL2, everyone and their cousin will be flying for the Allies, leaving the IJN and IJAAC with a deficit of players, and I enjoy the challenge of being the underdog.  It will become more balanced if we ever get the P40 and KI61 as they are both right at the top of my favorite aircraft.  Also, if the F2A Buffalo is available for early war I will fly that.  I love that little flying peanut.

I fly mostly on the german side, and  thats for the 190 - my over all favorite.

 

But the soviets are very close with the La 5

Being a Belarusian, I can't bring myself to fly German aircraft. I respect the technological and performance aspects of these birds as they were exceptional or at least worthy opponents from start to finish, but it's nearly impossible to brush aside decades of learning about the pain this war brought to my homeland. With all due respect to the pilots who partook on both sides, I personally can't put it into a vacuum.

 

So then it's Allies/Soviets for me. Luckily no strategic bombers, so I don't have the same negative association with indiscriminate destruction.

The favourite plane would be the Spitfire, since it's basically the epitome of a defensive tactical fighter both in its concept and actual battle history.

I spent tens of hours in BF-109 when beggining with the game. Because BFs engine automatisation and so easier introduction to flight simulation. Also my countrymen flown it in 13./JG52 which motivated me. My second the most flown plane is IL-2 and recently I started flying Yaks. Beyond that I flown almost all WW2 era planes currently in the game(more or less) and except BF-109 nothing intrugued me from Blue side, so I consider myself Red. Soviet mostly. Western planes are great too but they are too foregin to me. Theirs gauges, to be specific. Foots, miles, yards, gallons are cipher for me.  I need meters , kilometers and liters to feel like home. But I'll fly western planes more as well when time comes.

For aerobatics Allied planes they are the best looking planes ever..

Both, there are great planes on both sides and I like the diversity.

 

Also, the campaign tends to be different for the German and the Allied side, so alternating makes the campaign experience more diverse.

I flown almost all of them and enjoy most of them.  I have a penchant for earlier WWII air action, say pre-1944, so I am somewhat stuck on the Eastern Front flying 109s, 190s, Yaks, Migs, etc.  I really wish we had a Mediterranean/North Africa module, sigh.  Just waiting for COD to get VR.  And like BlitzPig_EL stated above, I hope I live long enough to fly a healthy menu of Japanese fighters.
