German Gunner Elevation is both inconsistent and wrong

Hello,

the elevation angles on the german mg08 turrets is both wrong on all models (only allows around 15-20° upward instead of the possible 90°) and also inconsisten, showing a more accurate  45° with the pintel mount locked in the menu, or allowing the gotha with the same mount to go up to almost 70°. Attached are both ingame photos of the highest possible in flight angles, the highest angles in the game menu and the highest angle possible irl. Please note the metal handle at the pintel mount which would unlock it to allow more degrees of upward movement (Roland picture no.3)

(Note due to file size restrictions i have only opted to attach roland pictures, but same issues persist with every other central plane except the Gotha)

Not really sure how you would expect someone to fire a machine gun from such an extreme angle, let alone with any accuracy. 🙂

Hello,

that is a very fair point, the 90° angle would probably be quite impractical in actual flight, however, almost 70° are possible in the Gotha with the same gun mounts and in the hangar it does show atleast 45° of elevation for the german non gotha gunners (Roland, Halberstadt cl2 and DFW), which is not as agregious. Currently this is not possible in game and the elevation angle simply cuts off at a nonexistant stop (at around 15° or 20° )for all non Gotha gunners.

It would already be quite a huge Quality of life improvement to allow for the 45°ish degrees that should be possible with the mount locked in its current position

Example on how it should work:

Gotha gunners with the same gun mount can aim like this (attached screenshot)

The history: because many of us were there... it used to be better (which also means it is a simple fix of changing a single number - the arc limiter on 3 Central two seaters back to the original and more accurate number that is pointed out is already on the Gotha), but then someone (we can only speculate that it wasn't a Central pilot) lobbied or was in a position to 'fix it' on their own during one of the earlier patches.

Squatting down in the gunnery box, watching bullet impacts on targets at range, and the age old 'eyeing' a target by shooters, are all legitimate additional steps that a gunner would have employed with these guns without a scarf ring.  Artificially restricting their arc from what they were in real life, in a product that attempts to be a flight simulation, has always seemed a bit out of place, reminding some of their least favorite nieces, Arbitrary and Capricious.

Everything used to be good, but now everything is better. It would be better if everything were good again!
