Maybe a Dumb Question But--How to Read the Map?

<S> All;

I am slowly getting back into this, and needless to say, much has changed with Blitz.  One of the things that I seem to see has changed a lot is the mini-map.  I cannot for the life of me seem to find my plane on the map ; there is a white one I presume to be mine but often it is one of several?  And it's direction never seems to change, no matter what I do.  So I spend a lot of my time getting lost. :)

I seem to recall the old maps being different.  The map borders are still there. So, if I am to head to C3, I know where it is.  I can even get a vector, providing my compass reads true, but even as I change heading, my 'plane' on map stays in one spot.  Is it something I am doing wrong?  Thanks for any advice in advance.

It's possible the difficulty settings prevent you seeing your own aircraft properly so maybe check them and loosen them up so the map works more like a GPS.

Thanks AtomicP.  I have all the settings that start with "No Objects..." etc., unchecked. So I am flying with 'Custom' settings, mostly real.  Perhaps that is it?  I will try flying on a 'easier' setting all around and see.  Thanks again!

No worries. I don't have the time to spend on learning and doing 'proper' navigation so the main concession I make in these sims is showing where I am at all times. Especially important in maps where there are few features like Tobruk or in some of the maps in the Great Battles series. More so in winter!

Just thought I'd give a quick reply:  I changed Realism settings to 'Easy', then enabled the boxes for CEM and realistic flight conditions and now, lo and behold! I can -- sometimes -- find and follow my plane on map.  Thanks again for the help!!

(Isay 'sometimes' because the blasted map icons are so tiny my old eyes have trouble picking things out ).
