Dear friends, precisely 86 years ago, on October 2, 1939, the TsKB-55 prototype, later named the Il-2, took to the skies for the first time. This legendary, most mass-produced combat aircraft in history (more than 36,000 were produced), became one of the symbols of WWII and gave its name to your favorite series of flight simulators.

But given the Korea project, we can't help but mention another aircraft that took to the skies in October. Yesterday, 78 years ago, on October 1, 1947, the XP-86 prototype, later known as the F-86 Sabre, made its first flight in California.
