Mysticpuma Posted Tuesday at 07:58 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:58 PM Never owned a wheel but fancy giving a few racing games a proper go. That said, I may hate the experience and not continue 🥴 The wheel and pedals I.am considering is the Logitech G29. Anyone used it? Otherwise, any recommendations for a wheel and pedals. Maximum price I want to spend is £1 😂 but seriously, probably £250, as I really want to.see if I like it rather than heading off onto Fanatec kit. Cheers, Mysticpuma
Aapje Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I bought a second hand G29 and it was good enough to have fun. With this kind of kit, you can often find lightly used sets by people who discover that they don't like it, or can't be bothered to set it up to play a game, or just don't have the time to game at all. The steering wheel is the best part, quite reliable even with fairly heavy use and decent FFB. Pedals are the weak part, both the quality and the reliability. They use pots and they obviously like to collect dust being on the ground and below your feet, which pots don't like. When they broke, I sold mine for parts and upgraded. That said, DD sets often cut costs on the pedals as well. If you want to do well at more serious simracing, then proper pedals are one of the most important factors for good lap times. Do keep in mind that even a 3 Nm DD is considerably better than a belt-drive, so don't overspend on a G29. I would also take a look on your local second hand market for cheap lightly used DD sets. On Ebay.co.uk, I saw that multiple Moza R3 bundles got sold for about 280 pounds, and I would much rather get that than spend 180 on a 2nd hand G29. All the low end stuff has lots of people sell it when they either want to upgrade or abandon the hobby, so lots of supply, usually. The higher end stuff is much rarer 2nd hand, because people hang on to it far longer. Do keep in mind that there is a lot of variety in games, from simcade, to track racing, to offroad, to drifting, so don't write it off right away if one kind of game doesn't suit you.
