Boost in La-5F and throttle recognition

The boost option (LShift-B) doesn't work in the La-5F.  It works in the La-5 and La-5FN but not in the 5F.  Also, the game doesn't recognize the throttle on my Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick.  Have I missed a setup step?

La-5F doesn't have a separate boost, so to speak; its engine is already boosted in itself. Please read following excerpt from here:

"Engine maker Shetsov created a boosted version of the M-82 radial engine, the M-82F, which had a small increase in overall horsepower but ensured that the engine could now reliably operate at full power for a prolonged period of time rather than the several minutes that the original engine could."

I think there's a similar explanation inside game, but I got more easily this one on the internet.

 

About FF2 joystick, I recall there's an option in game setup for this kind of peripherals: please try to detect it.
