Yardstick Posted August 28 Posted August 28 I'm currently working on a 1:4 scale instrument panel for a Hurricane Mk I but am struggling to find good images of the 'air speed data plate' mounted on the top left of the blind flying panel. The image below comes from Hurricane R4118, supposedly the best example of a BoB era Hurricane. I think the data plate reads as follows: AIR SPEED VHE 385 MPH IAS VFLAP 120 MPH IAS V/UC 120 MPH IAS I'm confident of the text in black but not that in red. If anyone can help or has a clearer picture of this aircraft's cockpit, I'd be v. grateful.
357th_KW Posted August 28 Posted August 28 (edited) It's almost certainly VNE 380 as in Velocity - Never Exceed https://ww2aircraft.net/forum/threads/hurricane-dive-speeds.55888/ - apparently the Mk I Hurricane pilot notes from 1940 agree with this marking. Edited August 28 by 357th_KW 1
Yardstick Posted August 28 Author Posted August 28 Thanks 375th_KW - that makes a whole lot of sense 😀👍
Stonehouse Posted August 29 Posted August 29 In case it's useful, the Hurricane Mk1 pilot notes. Confirms max diving speed (ie Vne) is 380 mph, see page 31 in the pdf Hurricane1.7zip 1
