JG3_Werner Posted August 23 Posted August 23 Following the guidance from this thread: I set up my C-47s and Wacos at the same altitude, both heading due south, both 'enabled', same altitude, exactly 90m nose to tail. When I launch the game in the glider, the C-47s are starting behind me, I'm guessing about 200-300m. If it makes a difference, this is a coop mission. Any idea what I'm doing wrong here? I have been searching the forum for definitive guidance on how to set up tethered air starts and the above is the best I have found. Thanks in advance.
jollyjack Posted August 23 Posted August 23 (edited) The right position, WP - speed plus height and line up of the planes is crucial. Spent an awful lot of time to get it to work, thanks Jaegermeister's advice. You'll need these UPS skins in your skins folder i uploaded to Haluter's.: Cut the rope with D at the right spot in time and try not to crash into a building. Edited August 23 by jollyjack 1
JG3_Werner Posted August 24 Author Posted August 24 So more tinkering, and the crazy thing seems to be if I have my Waco set as not a cooperative start (i.e. AI player) it works properly, the C47 and Waco airstart tethered. In that case I'm flying in an unrelated "chase" plane to observe the tug/glider combo. If I set the Waco to cooperative start the C47 launches in the wrong spot. I'm guessing that there is some feature for online play where planes get moved to avoid collisions within seconds of launch, and that's what's messing things up when the Waco is set to cooperative start and air start. Would love to be proven wrong by someone who has settings that work for a player-occupied Waco airstarting tethered to a C47.
JG3_Werner Posted August 24 Author Posted August 24 Eureka! If I set both the C47 and Waco to cooperative start, it works properly with the planes at the same alt and ~90m apart nose to tail. Even if I launch the game with a player in the Waco and AI in the C47, it works. I hope this helps other mission builders! 1
jollyjack Posted August 24 Posted August 24 (edited) here A and B tows work OK, but C and D wont. Cooperative Air Start seems no influence, as i saw in a Jaegermeister mission. + D-Day_St.Mere-Eglise_v3a_jj.rar Edited August 24 by jollyjack
JG3_Werner Posted August 25 Author Posted August 25 (edited) jollyjack, I was able to put your files in my "Missions" folder and play it as an offline single player mission. I saw two Wacos with cables working properly, consistent with your comments. I don't know what the answer is here, but here are my observations with respect to the attached mission (which needs to be put in Multiplayer/Cooperative instead): -In this mission the C47 and Waco are both enabled for coop play -When I launch a coop server and fly by myself in the Waco, the rope works just fine. -If i change the C47 to no longer have cooperative play enabled, and then I play the mission in coop by myself, the rope doesn't work as the C47 doesn't spawn where I set it up to in the FMB -With the C47 and Waco both set to have cooperative play enabled, if I fly with my friend, regardless of which plane we both choose the cable doesn't work properly. In the above cases the altitude of each plane and the distance between the C47 and Waco does not change. My best guess is that with coop play there is some issue with latency and the distance between the Waco and C47 at the critical moment when it has to decide whether to display them as tethered or not, that is not happening when I either launch a coop mission by myself or play an offline mission like the one you provided. I appreciate your help and engagement on this, I'm posting my observations here as facts are friendly and maybe they'll be helpful to others trying to create air start tethered Wacos in coop missions and are likewise having difficulty.
