I am trying to find NBG campaigns, missions, aeroplanes and/or anything for RoF and am very interested in the DH-4 you've done. I made a fictional skin just so I could have a USMC DH-4 and I will attach it here since this thread exists. I could not use the template as it's a PSD so I converted it to a jpg and went from there with PSP. You wouldn't happen to know if a Liberty DH-4 mod exists or how to change engines, by chance? If you happen to have your skin and post it, GREAT! If not, no biggie. I'm sure I'll figure out a way to turn this one green and grey eventually. I'm surprised the real paint scheme was dragging the anchor but maybe they only had one template. The 1919 phots I've seen have the anchors forward on both sides so again, my scheme is not historically accurate, just something to tide me over. And it's got white control wires for some reason. Not sure where they are located on the 'template' so just left them as they are. I used the same EGA as your avatar, then changed the E&A to gold. Nice to see others interested in the NBG. I'm trying to figure out PWCG and just read a horrifying post that PWCG and the Flanders/Channel map don't get along well and I'm hoping that post is obsolete, but I'm not getting any replies on my questions about NBG so maybe it's old news and just can't be done? I don't know, I'm new to RoF. Anyhow, take care and have fun! atry_aircodh4_usmc.zip
ZiggyM Posted August 20 Author Posted August 20 To Gooseh. Since I was not able to attach images to the PMs, here are what I've got. Here is the USMC roundel used on the DH-4 in WWI. And here is the screen shot of a painting of 2nd Lt Ralph Talbot and GySgt Robert G Robinson's Medal of Honor fight against 12 Hun scouts over Pittham, Belgium after the October 14, 1918 bombing raid on the railyards at Thielt, Belgium, which just so happens to be the still at the beginning of the best documentary ever made. The roundel is located just aft of the gunner's position. I will attach another image or a drawing, but the tail colour on that image is not correct as US aeroplanes had the tail as red, white and blue opposed to blue, white and red of the UK aeroplanes. And the anchor should always be forward on USMC aircraft, not dragging, but some aeroplanes did have a dragging achor, which is just weird since USMC emlbem should always have anchor forward but I'm guessing they only had one template. I would prefer the anchor forward on both sides as I did on my attempt in the previous post, but I'm begging so I'm not choosing. This shows the location of the roundel but again, the anchor is dragging and if I were the C.O., I'm have them change that pronto. I never noticed the 'missing' auxiliary tank until you mentioned it. Now, I can't unsee it. RoF/FC need a Liberty DH-4 mod! Double guns, forward and back, standard on the Liberty bird, Ooh Rah! Here are my attempts at the roundels, which aren't too bad, IMO. Thank you GooseH! You are THE MAN when it comes to skins and I appreciate any effort and time as well as the time you took to respond to my PMs.
Gooseh Posted August 20 Posted August 20 OK, well that first image is perfect, I can work with that. The DH4 in RoF can have twin guns front and rear, so that can be covered, but there's no engine options. As far as the tank goes, there clearly is one in the screenshot from the doc, but it appears placed in the centre rather than offset as in RoF. I couldn't find the templates I used for the doc, so at this point I only have it invisible from the exterior view. Cockpit view still has the feeder pipe visible. You can maybe have it either way assuming I can find the pipe and erase it. But here's where we're up to so far... 1
ZiggyM Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 @Gooseh It's neat that one painting has the 'early' PC10 and the other has the 'late' PC10. Just goes to show how complicated trying to recreate history is (and other paintings show the entire aeroplane as yellow). And there's more! This photo is said to be of D-1 before it got it's EGA and serial # on the tail and it's got the roundels inboard of the ailerons (as I mentioned in the PM). I'm flying it no matter the colour! Cheers!
