Charlie-Brown Posted August 3 Posted August 3 (edited) I would like to preface this post by acknowledging that I am very dumb. I am a complete beginner to IL-2 and have been having problems with the throttle since I started this game. The controller I am using is the Turtlebeach VelocityOne, an entry level flightstick that is very niche as far as combat sims go. The only post I have been able to find on it is this one; https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/86802-turtle-beach-velocity-one-flight-stick-opinions-and-set-up/ but that's for Cliffs Of Dover. It is kind of difficult to explain in text, but I'll try anyway. When I first set the controller up, I set it up in such a way that nothing happened if I moved the lever up or down, unless I moved the lever to either 100% or 0%, in which case the throttle slowly increased and decreased. It was extremely difficult to get used to, but eventually I got somewhat used to it. But today I wanted to change it to a proper throttle system. The previous setup only detected the little detents that the lever had, called something along the lines of "JoystickInput_b8" and "JoystickInput_b9". The actual input for the throttle was called "Joystick_AxisT". When I jumped into career mode with this new configuration it was even worse than before, now the throttle could only be at 100% or 0%, and the lever controls were reversed. Naturally, I went to reverse the input and see if that cancelled it out. Same result. I tried setting it up backwards and see if that worked. Still broken. Can anyone help me? Thank you in advance. Aapje Posted August 4 Posted August 4 In IL-2, you need to make sure that the Joystick_AxisT is mapped to the throttle axis. Remove the other throttle mappings for the joystick. Since the throttle seems to have button inputs along the way, there is a chance that IL-2 maps it to the buttons instead of the axis. If so, you may need to manually edit the config files. If you are not sure, you can post a screenshot of the key mapping of the throttle and we can see if it looks good. There is also the possibility that you haven't properly calibrated the axis of the throttle. If you run the Game Controllers program, you can select your joystick and go to the Test page. Then you can see whether the throttle lever send the right data (the axis should show an empty bar when the throttle lever is fully down and it should go to completely full only once you move the lever fully up). If it doesn't look OK, then do this first: https://support.turtlebeach.com/s/article/VelocityOne-Flightstick-Calibration-Process?language=en_US 1 1
Charlie-Brown Posted August 4 Author Posted August 4 I'm sorry. I got my hopes up too soon. As it turns out, I'm having the almost the same problem as before, where the throttle can only be full or empty, but this time, it's not reversed. The thing is though, when I tried flying with mouse and keyboard, the same thing happened, leading me to believe that the problem isn't about the joystick at all. Is there any setting that I might have messed up?
Aapje Posted August 5 Posted August 5 You can backup the input directory and then from within the game, reset the bindings and do them all again. That might help if you messed something up. Alternatively, you can post a screenshot of the throttle settings. Perhaps we can see something that is wrong.
Ghost666 Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Under "Realism" settings, do you have "Throttle Auto Limit" and/or "Engine Auto Control" checked? If so try unchecking them. they have been known to cause problems like this.
czech693 Posted August 5 Posted August 5 If you once had the throttle set to only activate a button press at full forward or full back, then you need to make sure you delete those two button presses. Then assign the throttle as a throttle axis in Settings/Plane Controls.
Charlie-Brown Posted August 6 Author Posted August 6 I redid my bindings, it's currently hooked to "Joyaxis_T", I turned off both Throttle Auto Limit and Engine Auto Control, nothing works... I'll post a screenshot of my settings and try again tomorrow. 1

That’s the weirdest part; it behaves properly in the settings, but once I’m actually in the air, it’s only either 100% or 0% and nothing in between. Edited August 6 by Charlie-Brown
czech693 Posted August 7 Posted August 7 (edited) Did you assign those button commands in an external software? I think you've still got the button presses for the throttle assigned to the axis. Default is = and - for throttle buttons. But if you're not using those delete any button commands and just use the axis command. Here is what mine shows in Settings/Engine Throttle Control: I looked up that throttle as I'm not familiar with it. It appears that it is programmable. Did you originally program the throttle decrease and throttle increase in the throttle itself and not in the IL-2 Settings? That would explain why it's still doing those key presses. No, I did it all inside il-2. I didn’t even know it was reprogrammable. Maybe I forgot to update the stick??????
czech693 Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Those two key commands have to be programmed somewhere. If all else fails you can delete the input file in your BoX/data folder and it will regenerate when you start the sim again. You would then have to reprogram the key settings. If that doesn't work then it has to be programmed in your joystick itself. You can use Microsoft's Game Controllers program and see if those buttons are activating when you move the throttle to the limits. Watch the button panel and see if they light up when you reach the limit.
