Malta

This has probably been raised before but would a Malta map be feasible? With some Tunisian and Sicilian coast. We already have most of the aircraft required for 1941-42.

A bit more ambitious... I would suggest the whole Med Theatre of Operations. That would be great if IL2 BoX series continued, albeit slowly, expanding there.

That would be a huge map. I have never heard anything official but the general impression I get is that the extensive and complex stone cities on Malta would be extremely difficult to model in acceptable detail. When you combine that with enemy airfields being a long way away over water in Pantelleria or Italy, it is not the best option.

 

North Africa has not been addressed and it is presumed there is an agreement not to overlap with IL2 Desert Wings.

 

Sicily is more likely as a Mediterranean theatre expansion if one does come along.

The devs said that with the limitations of the GBs engine including cities like Rome and Naples would make the performance run very poor. (But that cannot be the reason why they didn’t do Sicily after BoN because you don’t need those cities.)

There may have been some agreement but I feel they deemed Normandy and the Rhineland to be much more profitable than North Africa, a theatre that most audiences aren’t very familiar with. In my opinion we have a pretty fleshed out depiction of the Siege of Tobruk from 1940-42 with many flyable bombers and ships ranging from torpedo boats up to and including battleships that it would make more sense to do Tunisia which would also give us Malta and Sicily. Though I wouldn’t mind if a team made a Tobruk map for GBs.
