elephant Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Hi guys, it's been a while... I took the opportunity of the sale and got finally FC. I'm trying to revive the old Johannisthal project from from 2010s. I tried to convert my old RoF templates to FC with no satisfactory results regarding the transformation to another type, especially for the D3...(I admit I'm kind of rusty after all these years of absence) I couldn't even navigate through my own old templates! The new ones seemed to be more complex and even more half of the titling being in Russian! For the moment I left the D3 aside and worked a bit on the D5a to D5 conversion. Here are the first results, featuring: 1. Removal of the V strut braces and all their components. 2. Νew more accurate footstep. 3. Removal of the metal parts on the lower wing regarding the aileron cables and introduction of the respective metal chute of the aileron cables at the upper wing cut. 4. Reworked the fastening clump of the radiator handle. 5. Added missing bolts on the fuselage below cockpit. 6. Johannisthal placards on their respective positions (both wings and fuselage). 7. Accurate Weights Table, rigging instruction cart and stencils on their respective positions. 8. Accurate National Markings placement according to the Johannisthal Werke style. 9. Alternative Garuda propeller according to photographic evidence (could be WOLFF or ASTRA as well) 10. Reworked cockpit with more accurate metal primer color as well as in all metal parts externally. Here are some preview pics: 7

elephant Posted July 1 Author Posted July 1 (edited) I've been working on an off, making slight corrections and testing, again and again... My goal is to update the generic Jasta skins for PWCG as well as Panther's Career mod. I have updated many, but there are lots of them still to be done! I may release what I have done so far and keep updating, what do you think? Here are some of the latest progress I've done: The early D. 5 in green-lillac camo (substitutes the game's default Green-Mauve skin) The wood hue has been revised (the original is too reddish IMHO) In Panther's Career mod (no skins enabled so the defaults only showing) Jasta 12 in PWCG Jasta 40 in PWCG (skin revised to show the early scheme of J40 with the Saxony flag colors) Check out the new detail added...trace from the removal of the pilot's headrest. Here is a machine with lozenge camo (still working on the color hues because the default one is a bit off, tell me what you think) Jasta 35b, late '17, revised skin, in PWCG and in Panther's Career mod with skins enabled. Check out the removal of the landing gear fairing, a common practice during winter time operations. Notice the rudder covered in lower wing lozenge which is historical for the first batches. elephant Posted July 1 Author Posted July 1 I think I finalized the lozenge adjusting the hues according to this photo: The undersides In comparison to the default 5
elephant Posted July 3 Author Posted July 3 (edited) Some more fiddling with the lozenge hues...I think this result looks more balanced. Now I think I need to skin the static planes as well (as a bonus) does anyone knows where they are located? Edited July 3 by elephant 3
elephant Posted July 3 Author Posted July 3 I did the upper lozenge from scratch (thanks to The Aerodrome Forum) no more fiddling with the hues of the default one any more. I got the lower almost identical to the real thing from that photo but I was not totally satisfied with the upper one. Here is the result, tell me what you guys think...which one do you prefer? 5
elephant Posted July 4 Author Posted July 4 (edited) Well...I found something better...from HotWaffle and his modified Pfalz D.IIIa template. His lozenge is better (and higher resolution) than the one from the Aerodrome I was using, a bit too vibrant IMO but I adjusted the saturation levels to my preferences. P.S. two more close ups... JGr2/J5_W0LF- Posted July 7 Posted July 7 Looking really good elephant keep up the great work, man I want to see rise of light bounce back 1
elephant Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 Some progress I made lately... I redone the fuselage bolts from scratch (resized and more detailed) reworked the footstep and the tires, resized and corrected the strut stencils, retextured the external view cockpit to reflect the changes I have made to the "big" one. Reworked the undercarriage rods (when the fairing is removed) and the engine front box which now looks more like brass. Also redone the 1918 Balkencrosses (the default ones I was using were misplaced and not actually covering the original factory crosses as they should). D.5 with field fitted V strut reinforcement braces. The strut stencil has the serial number only. D.5a, bolts, footstep, the stencil corrected Albtr. D.5a not 5.V and the serial number resized The other side Rods and front box D.5 cockpit featuring the control cable wires chute with all the required openings (the wires are missing...hahaha) The D.5a cockpit The external view cockpit. And lastly the Balkencrosses 3 1
elephant Posted July 11 Author Posted July 11 (edited) I Forgot to provide good pics of the tires...also I used HotWaffle's Pfalz D.III bump map to give some Volume to the wing root step. As you may have noticed I post pics from my planes at my current Career with Jasta 35b... Yesterday, some replacement machines arrived...and I took one for a ride, they say they are more sturdy in a dive... Featuring all the OAW distinct traits...metal primer, creased cowling hood, taping, National Markings, factory placards and stencils, in the proper position, wheel cover hatches...(still WiP) Edited July 11 by elephant 2
JGr2/J5_W0LF- Posted July 12 Posted July 12 (edited) Bro you are killing it. Hope WWI sims can make a come back I love this game Edited July 12 by Bugsy 3
elephant Posted July 16 Author Posted July 16 (edited) Well, I think I've finalized the D.5 templates of the D.5, D.5a and D.5a (OAW)...now I have to pull out the skins for the Jastas. Here is an example with Jasta 4. Early D.5 with the pilot's headrest removed, no brace, early style of camo with the dark green part relatively thin on the upper wing, will be the initial skin for J4 starting May'17. notice that from some angles, certain distances and lighting conditions the erased brace will show up like a very thin line. From October'17 J4 will be having this one, a later D.5 (uprated) early lozenge camo (with lower lozenge for the rudder) and field fitted braces. The undercarriage fairing has been removed due to muddy conditions. For April'18 J4 is getting a last batch Johannisthal D.5a. Notice that from the mid of the first batch of D.5a production(5165-5426) Johannisthal stopped using lozenge camo and went back to Dark Green-Lilac combo (this time with more balanced amounts of green-lilac on top wing) Photographic evidence reveals that many of those machines had the rigging chart placed on the starboard side, also there were no Nicht auftreten! (No step) stencils on the lower wings. Screenshots from PWCG Career. Edited July 16 by elephant 5
elephant Posted July 20 Author Posted July 20 (edited) Some more progress with the Jastas... Jasta 23b this time: D.5 with removed headrest and full painted tail. Here is the mid skin, the uprated D.5 2359 actually, featuring the more simplified painting for the tail lower lozenge rudder and the upper crosses with a style that was used for a brief time (also seen on OAW D.IIIs of the same period) The April '18 skin is an OAW machine with oversimplified Jasta markings featuring only the white ribbon on the tail. based on tis photo: Thanks to Jim Miller (JFM) I revised the weights table stencil with the actual font used by OAW in the actual proportions of the inscription. elephant Posted July 27 Author Posted July 27 I didn't do much this week, I'm going to work in an archeological site away from home for a month or so and I've been preparing. Anyway, I did some little things...I was exploring PWCG skins and made a skin for one of the least critical Jastas (44) and started a Campaign, just for fun. As far as I know it is not historical...if someone has further information about Jasta 44 please be my guest. A historical Jasta 44 plane...but I have no other info but this photo. I tried blue ribbons, than almond I was using, for the taping of the OAW D.5a And added some more propeller brand options.... Luckenwalde - Niendorf a small detail in the Garuda... I have also added ANKER but is supposed to fit in a 200 HP Merc. D.IIIau engine and WOTAN but I have only seen it in an Albatros D.III 2
