A mission over France with the "Thunder Monsters" 405th Fighter Group

May 19, 1944. Captain Ludlow's 7th mission. His flight is to strike at a Railyard in a town of Valognes just South east of Cherbourg occupied France. A Polish Squadron will provide the fighter escort (No. 317 "City of Wilno" Polish Fighter Squadron. A squadron made up of mainly exiled Polish Air Force personal under the RAF umbrella.

 

Thunder Monsters is a reference to a book about the 405th Fighter Group (Thunder Monsters over Europe a History of the 405th Fighter Group in World War 2 by author Reginald G. Nolte who served in the Group as a Sergeant.)
