Bussard_x Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) A lot of aircraft in my squadron are lost during attack on bombers, stuka’s and 110’s because of attacks on their 6 in a straight line with a predictable outcome. Myself I attack from above/side in a fast pass, you have to have be patient, but with a good survivability rate and also claiming enemy aircraft. Currently playing the 610SQN campaign and too many times I RTB alone or 1 or 2 left in my squadron. I have seen AI attacking from above like I do, so it should be possible. Apparantly the AI has a mix of attacking tactics on bombers. So I would suggest to make AI only do attack from above/side as described to give a better chance of survival. Edited May 21 by Bussard_x
paul_leonard Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Some of us are spending time trying to better understand the AI settings that are assignable within the FMB and reflected in the mission file. I would draw your attention to this recent post on AI skill settings:https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/91024-ai-skill-settings/#comment-1347583 and this post on how to edit AI settings within the FMB: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/91279-tutorial-how-to-build-a-better-quick-mission-in-the-full-mission-builder-in-eight-easy-steps/#comment-1350282. The default settings historically used by mission builders are clearly less than optimal, resulting in some frustration by players. It's a fine balance though to get things right (better) and we are still learning. For example, in my own testing, I have noted that the Bravery Setting is somewhat binary. I haven't quite figure out the point at which things change, but generally speaking, below a certain point the AI pilot will completely avoid engaging and above that is like a rabid dog and will not disengage until perhaps fuel gets too low and overrides the blood lust. This makes for either no fight (not fun) or a high threat environment, great fun but ahistorical as losses on both sides are high. I admit I'm biased to the fun factor. Also we've learned that the Accuracy setting controls both bomber bombardiers and gunners (although it is possible to create individual settings but a big pain in the arse to do). This makes bomber gunners generally excessively lethal from any direction if you wish bombers to pose any threat to the ground at all. Nobody exactly knows what the Tactics setting controls at this juncture although this may impact forms of attack alongside having an effect of flying behaviour. More to study. It would be great if more people got involved in trying to better understand the AI to make the sim better. It only requires a rudimentary understanding the the FMB (see above) and an investment in time watching behaviours for different AI settings (Tacview is great for this). More observations, better outcomes.
