Selected key mapping profile resets to default key mapping after every mission

I've built a dedicated P-38 deskpit and set up a special profile to map keys and buttons on the Honeycomb Yoke and Saitek throttle quadrants I use.   This works great, and of course I expect that each time I start the game I have to remember to select this special profile.

 

The problem is the game doesn't remember that I've selected this profile between missions.   It always reverts to the default keybindings after every mission.   So every time I spawn the '38, I must go into the menu system and reselect the special P-38 keymap profile.    

 

Is there any way or workaround to get it to stay with the selected profile between missions?

Down on the bottom right there is a tab for Profile assignments.  Clicking that brings up a menu that shows the Profile and Joystick assignments.  Is your custom profile assigned to the P-38?  Just creating it and naming it doesn't assign it to a specific aircraft.  You have to assign it in the Profile assignment list.
