Cocoaholic Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Hello, I became aware of this problem recently as I was trying less "handholdy" assist functions and control more parts of the plane myself: Opening and closing Oil and Water Radiators do not work at all. Default Keyboard bindings do not work. My custom bindings to Joystick buttons do not work. (De-)activating automatic radiator controls with LShift+R sometimes works (but does nothing) and sometimes doesn't. Seems to change by restarting the game. Same goes for Prop Pitch and RPM. I have wingmen commands like "Engage closest Air Target" bound to my Cursor Keys. They worked normally for months, then they apparently randomly stopped working. Rebinding does not help. I am not aware of any other keybindings ever having this problem. E.G. Firing primary weapons, Flaps, toggle landing gear always worked perfectly. The problem also persists over several different planes.

Can you post more info about which aircraft this happens on? A screenshot of your difficulty settings would also help. 19 hours ago, Cocoaholic said: I have wingmen commands like "Engage closest Air Target" bound to my Cursor Keys. Do you get the "radio message" you send but the AI doesn't respond to it? Or don't you get a radio message at all? The former is a known AI issue that will only be fixed in Korea. The latter might be a mission scripting issue; e.g. the other aircraft might not be attached to your group. Can you post the mission file then? If none of these are the issue, my first guess is a problem with your USB drivers or connection (the latter especially if they're connected through the same USB slot on your PC).
Cocoaholic Posted May 5 Author Posted May 5 It happens on: Tempest, Spitfire V, Spitfire XIV, Mustang, Yak-9T, Bf109 K-4, Fw190-A5; P-38 Haven't tried any other planes recently. And I tried it with various difficulty settings. Automatic Engine Control, Radiator Assist, Throttle Assist etc all turned off and some turned on in various combinations. They seem to have no effect at all. No radio message goes out at all. That happened in various missions. Last i remember was the second Tempest mission in Career Mode, Battle of Rheinland, Fighting in the Low Countries where I was supposed to be the flight leader. I never tried to extract a mission file. What would i google for to quickly find a guide? All buttons on my Hotas work perfectly in other games, in Windows game controller settings and when binding keys in IL-2. In the past i had trimming set to the buttons I now use for radiators. Worked back then too. When binding those problematic functions to the keyboard, they don't work either and no USB device connected to my PC shows any problems. Would be odd for just some buttons to fizzle out when in a mission only. But I will keep an eye open for any USB related shenanigans.

Off the top of my head, the Spits and Tempest only have oil radiators, no water radiators. Some very related functionalities have separate key bindings. Search for "radiator" and there's a lot of different key bindings. Make sure the right ones are assigned. 19 hours ago, Cocoaholic said: No radio message goes out at all. The following describes the process for Career or (Advanced) Quick missions: Although even if this issue would be fixed and the radio message would be sent, it probably wouldn't have the desired effect because of the aforementioned AI issues. In general, the advice is not to use radio commands at all. Edited May 6 by AEthelraedUnraed
1CGS LukeFF Posted May 6 1CGS Posted May 6 The Spitfire V, Typhoon, and Tempest all use the water radiator commands that open and close the shutters to a preset position. The Mk IX and XIV have automatically controlled radiators. By the way, this is also all explained on the specifications page for each plane. 🙂
Cocoaholic Posted May 6 Author Posted May 6 Thanks, i pinned the post regarding the mission file in case i need it again. Your answers would explain a portion of my issues. I bound everything even remotely having radiator in the description to the same keys and fired up a solo flight. This time i could change from automatic to manual radiator rontrol as confirmed by the message on screen so i was definitely in manual radiator control mode when i tried again - and nothing happened. I guess I'll just play those old Heli Sims i found on gog for a while...

If you had the same keys bound to an axis and the separate increase/decrease command but in the wrong order, the same key would at the same time increase and decrease the value. Ergo nothing happens. Can you try binding everything to a different key? (It's just for testing so it doesn't need to be convenient)
Cocoaholic Posted May 8 Author Posted May 8 I did not bind both increase and decrease of something to the same key, i made sure of that. Also, the status messages about changing something on the right side of the screen do not even appear. Everything at different keys did not help either.
Cocoaholic Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 And today, without changing anything, the Water Radiators on the Tempest were suddenly working.
