P-38s in England

Is there a way to make the P-38 available at the start of the BON career prior to D-Day? Having operated out of English airfields in 1943 it would be true to history to have it be available from the beginning. Thanks!

PWCGBoS has that.  474th Fighter Group starts in England on 1943-06-01.

Just note that the J-25 model didn't show up in England until June 1944, just so you know. That's why P-38s aren't in career missions beforehand.

The easiest way is to simply edit an existing P-47 or P-51 squadron in the 'Squadrons' and '22Squadrons' files to use P-38s instead. It's a quick copy/paste of one line from any P-38 squadron. The drawbacks of this method are:

- The P-38s will have silver skins unless you edit the 'Skins' and '22Skins' files.

- The P-38s may not always be properly armed for missions unless you edit the 'Planes-to-Missions' file.

- You'll have to transfer to another P-38 squadron at D-Day to continue as a Lightning pilot.

 

I just flew a May 2, 1944 bombing mission with the P-38 after a few edits to the 10th Fighter Squadron (P-47 by default). I'm also exploring how to add a Chapter 1 to the 'real' P-38 squadrons, but so far my edits aren't being recognized in the game. I have some ideas of what files may need to be edited but if my experiments don't pan out I'll simply polish up my edits to the 10th FS, add olive drab skins and tactical codes, and post the mod here.

Here is a version that lets you fly P-38s instead of P-47s for the 10th Fighter Squadron prior to D-Day. The aircraft will have tactical codes and use the OD paint scheme without invasion stripes.

 

The edited squadron is [103010]. You can use my edits as a template if you want to re-equip a different squadron. (103xxx is the designator for all the U.S. squadrons, and xxx010 is in this case the 10th Fighter Squadron.) I've made edits to all of the files in the zip file except 'Squadrons2' which is specific to the AI squadrons.
