I checked here because yesterday IL-2 suddenly stopped working for me.  I play in VR mode on Steam.  I have been doing this for the last 2 years without changing my settings with no issue. The symptom was when the game started, it was suddenly asking for my login with the fields for username/password blank and even after logging in manually, I had no maps available, not even the stalingrad one.  I checked the game integrity on Steam and it still had this issue.  This morning I tried again, making no other changes on my end.  This time it said I had accounts in both steam and il-2 and if I would like to link them (recommended).  I selected that checkbox on login.  All my maps were back!  I then did the quick start, which is what I usually play.  I selected the Kuban Autumn map and my usual of 1 x P-51D for me and 4 x Ace BF109K4 for the enemy.  I start on the runway, they start in the air.  Realism was 100% (no boxes checked).  Clicked "Start" and it hung up loading on the Quick Start screen.  I also tried the Normandy map with the same other settings.  Same issue.  Any suggestions?  Is there a problem with the game on the server?

Also, it does show version 5.507 in the game.

Do you happen to have the _gen.mission file from when this happened? And where on the map did this happen?

Hi Luke, I seem to get the same issue no matter what map and location I try.  But the last one was Kuban Autumn on Grid 1318 for the Quick Mission Builder.  The newest _gen.Mission file I have is from yesterday, so I don't think it is updating it when this occurs.  However, I would be happy to send it to you if you would like.

Yes, if/when you see it happen again, exit out of the game and grab the file, since it's overwritten every time a new mission is generated. That way our team will know they are looked at the right file. Thanks!

Or, if that is the last mission you generated, then yes, that one will work as well.

I solved the issue!  I deleted that _gen.Mission file and then revalidated the integrity of the game in Steam.  It found one file that needed to be resynched.  I then tried the game and it works fine now!  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction with the mission file.  I think that was the issue.

Did you remove mouse input as a control option for all aircraft?

I can't use my mouse to control aircraft anymore (I've injured my shoulders and can't use my joystick).

Thanks very much for addressing the medals issue in career mode, listed as number 9 in the patch notes list.  Greatly appreciated.

So will parachutes not be seen before 1918? They weren't in use at the beginning of 1918 but but a few months later. What progress is there for AI improvement?

The research on German parachutes from Dan San Abbot was that they were employed as early as January 1918.

Nothing new to report about the AI.

I thought that the texture memory improvement for Rheinland would have made the large cities when looking out of the windshield in an opposite direction and when looking back at the city to take three seconds to have all buildings back in view.

Improving the city appearing speed in patches, that is what I expected, but I see no difference.

So what is exactly the effect of texture improvement that is mentioned?

In my case I had to reprogram my joystick buttons and I’m facing the IL2 famous moving cockpit problem in VR mode.  Selecting en deselecting VR camera options and from expert to custom, nothing does help.
I know in RoF I did always made the joystick and startup file backup, guess that I will do in the future.

If in VR and in cockpit, move till you are happy with the view and then press F10 to set that as the default view.

If things are really messed up you can use the defaults from the  \IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad\data\LuaScripts\snapviews folder to get everything back to game install default and then work each cockpit position again as you fly each plane again with the F10 key.

Ensure you have a snapview centering button mapped on your Hotas / Joystick.
