I found this pic on Wikipedia. If that's what a dam buster does, then since virtual pilots drop bombs with higher accuracy then real pilots, it could potentially be doable to bomb snipe the dam wall with a normal bomb? Smack it against the top of the wall above water to arm the bomb, then have it sink and detonate later after a set fuze timer?

The Lancaster was used extensively in other ops so the bird wouldn't be a one trick.

 

The bouncing bomb operation its self would be quite a bit of work, but a dlc would certainly not be without legs.

But it's a four-engine bomber, which makes it expensive to develop. It's also somewhat of a niche. This combined makes it probably extremely unattractive commercially. Also, it was only used in night raids for which we lack a map (the Rheinland map is perfect for targets, but there'd be nowhere to takeoff).

If the developers thought it would make any economic sense to add heavy bombers to IL-2 GB, they would have done it years ago.

True, but we don't even have the map to replicate the mission and with what we do have in the game a B-17 would make more sense than the Lancaster. Then again it's a flyable B-25 or AI B-17.

Just food for thought.

 

Simulating this mission to see how difficult it was just may not be possible. The navigator alone, having to navigate hundreds of miles at around 60 feet! That in itself is a roll, nevermind being pilot.
