Sandman3838 Posted April 20 Posted April 20 (edited) Afternoon, Wow I do not know how you all do it. I have been trying for some time to get everything lined up, this is not just a one weekend rant. Getting IL2 running in VR if the most frustrating endeavors I have encountered in some time. I am so aggravated I almost wish I had not bought this Quest 3 crap. 😱 What I am trying to achieve – - Visual Passthrough to the keyboard or Hands, through Open XR or Steam VR. (as I understand it Open XR is preferred) So far, I have gone through these Videos more than once. AntAptive - Jan 5, 2025 – Increase META Quest PCVR Performance 2025 SSG VR - Jul 2, 2024 - How To Start & Switch To PC VR Mode IL-2 adidas3k - Jun 30, 2022 - steamvr to opencomposite instructions for IL-2 VR Laubox - Oct 31, 2023 - DCS 2.9 VR Settings Guide LEe wicks - Jan 24, 2022 - L2 BOS VR setup for Oculus - Open Composite - AMD FSR Maddabbo - Jun 27, 2021 - Oculus Quest2 Setup Guide for IL2 MYSH - Aug 17, 2024 - Complete IL2 Great Battles Quickstart Guide OG Iceman VR - May 7, 2024 - META QUEST 3 SETTINGS FOR IL2 OG Iceman VR - Oct 18, 2023 - OpenXR Tool kit version 1.3.2 IL2 Sheriff's Sim Shack - Apr 24, 2024 - My VR Setup for IL-2 Great Battles - OpenXR - Quest 3 ETC….. At the moment I have installed. - OPEN COMPOSITE Switcher - Oculus Debug Tool - OpenXR Toolkit Companion app - Virtual Desktop Streamer - Oculus - Meta Quest - Steam & Steam VR Not to mention the Virtual Desktops everywhere, some I mentioned above. From here (a screen shot taken on line) The minute I place on my headset I get this. - Immersed Desktop --- Has a Virtual Desktop - Steam (some mention staring IL2 from here with VR properties set to ON) APPS - Steam VR (some mention staring IL2 from here) APPS - Etc…. I Guess if you are going down the OpenXR road you can bypass the Steam VR and AntAptive (above) suggested bypassing Oculus and using SteanVR and just starting IL2? Can someone please just let me know the order Apps to activate and where that are, PC or VR and which Virtual desktop you are using? Open XR ==== 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Steam VR ==== 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Thank you all. Edited April 20 by Sandman3838
Aapje Posted April 21 Posted April 21 I run cabled with Open XR Toolkit and Quest Link. No passthrough. The steps I take to start the game: - Start Meta Quest Link on the PC (not really needed, since it will start automatically later on if you don't, but it saves time) - Open the sound settings and change the sound to the Quest - Start XRNeckSafer - Connect the Quest, which is set up to start Quest Link automatically. Otherwise you can start it manually from the headset. - Then I start IL-2 from the menu in the Quest
Sandman3838 Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 Thank you for the info... Didn't know about XRNeckSafer, looks like a TrackIR for VR. I'll be sure and check back with it after I get the basic SW back up and running. I think what may have happened there was too much of a mix-up with the programs so I removed everything last night. Just going to take it one step at a time.
Aapje Posted April 22 Posted April 22 You can set up XRNeckSafer to work similar to TrackIR, but I have set it up to shift my view 90 degrees left or right when I press the HAT on my joystick left or right. That works for me. But I agree that the best way is to start relatively simple and then start adding stuff once you have something that works.
Sandman3838 Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 Afternoon, Sorry to trouble you all.... Last night I took a step back and I removed everything and started over. Now starting IL2 through Steam VR works and so does the Passthrough with the hands. YA! OpenXR on the other hand. Using this video as suggested - Sheriff's Sim Shack - Apr 24, 2024 - My VR Setup for IL-2 Great Battles - OpenXR - Quest 3 The Issue - My IL2 opens on the PC in 2D not in VR I have double checked my setting for all of this with the video - - Open Composite = Status: Open Composite (open XR) - IL2 opening settings are set at [X] Enable VR - Steam (not SteamVR that's off) IL 2 link properties has VR enabled and I also added the launch option -vrmode Oculus - My settings in Open XR, Oculus Debug, and IL2 match up. - Nvidia settings etc..... When you all are starting/opening IL2 where are you all staring it from. The Steam Library link, the PC desktop in Windows, from Oculus Meta Quest that starts once the Head set is on. Or, any number of the Virtual Desktops in Oculus Meta Quest program. Immersive? Aapje above mentioned "start IL-2 from the menu in the Quest" which desktop or menu, once one is in Oculus Meta Quest. I'm missing something?? Thank you for your time

I'm missing something?? I haven't used cable connection in awhile (I use VD), but isn't there an icon on the Oculus dashboard to access the desktop?
Aapje Posted April 23 Posted April 23 I start it from the headset. When Quest Link connects to the PC, I get this kind of display in the headset (screenshot is not from me): I have IL-2 in the list and I start it by selecting it with the Quest controller. I think that IL-2 got automatically added to the view after starting it from Windows one time, but that was a long time ago, so I can't be sure.
Sandman3838 Posted April 23 Author Posted April 23 (edited) Ok got it.... What you have there was - Have "Oculus - Meta Quest" running on the PC Once in Oculus in the VR head set Don't go to from the APPS folder to in Oculus - Remote Desktop, Virtual Desktop, Windows App, Steam Link, etc... (the issue for me have been there are so many way to get to your PC & depending on where your at) Way too many ways to get to a pc and many are named the same. Instead, form the Oculus app menu bar look to the LEFT - Quick Settings - "Link-PC" This worked! YA Same setup as your screen shot. So far I'm set, I can now access IL2 from SteamVR or through Quest, after a few setting adjustments before starting one or the other. I still need to add a third party app for Hand Passthrough for OpenXR much like in SteamVR but that's a project is for this weekend. OH I have to ask, yep another silly question. Once in VR and IL2 and one is going through the games screens. Main Menu - Mission - Setup - etc... Are they super close for you all? Its like I'm sitting on the front row at a movie theater. LOL Thanks again for your help Have a great day Edited April 23 by Sandman3838

LOL Bind a button to default VR view or whatever it's called (it's normally bound to numpad 5). I press this after getting into the game, to get the correct positioning. I have bound the same button to the XRNeckSafer calibration, so that calibrates to the same location.
Sandman3838 Posted April 24 Author Posted April 24 Thanks I'll be sure to Bind the key you suggested as for OpenKneeBoard.... I already have it downloaded. I'll install it and set it up this weekend .
