Todt_Von_Oben Posted April 12 Posted April 12 My first fights in these. 16-plane IL*2 Sturmovik Flying Circus QM Skirmishes in VR; six sorties: two in the Airco and four in the Fokker. S! 2
AndyJWest Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Nice. 👍 One thing they both have going for them is good forward visibility. Shame the same can't be said for backwards visibility in the D.H.2. The Eindekker's all-round view is arguably better than an F-16s... 1

I haven't flown either since these first sorties but what I noticed on landing the E.III was the flying rudder seemed more effective than it is on the Dr.1; I'm thinking because of the added length of the empennage and the fact she's a monoplane. I'll be experimenting with that soon. I wonder how well it can skid-shoot? Edited April 13 by Todt_Von_Oben clarification of meaning
Todt_Von_Oben Posted April 13 Author Posted April 13 Oh, please ignore the typo at the beginning: should have said "Six sorties; two in the Pusher and FOUR in the Eindekker." My bad. 😄

My bad. 😄 I'd put it down to concussion, or being on fire at the time, or something like that. 😃 Today's lesson for me, as far as the Eindekker goes, is that it isn't very good at shooting down Sopwith Camels. Not that I really needed to figure that out, but I'd rather forgotten the limitations of the AQMB. I selected an 'intercept enemy aircraft' mission option of some sort (can't remember exactly what it was called), and it was all going fairly well, as my flight of four sallied boldly forth, until the enemy arrived. Heroes that they were, my AI comrades took my order to attack the pair of humpy fiends that turned up without argument, rather than doing the sensible thing and scarpering, so battle commenced. If it could be called that. I somehow managed to put a hole or two in at least one of the Camels before the inevitable happened and the gross imbalance in speed led to me misjudging things, colliding with a Camel almost head on. ☹️ Edited April 13 by AndyJWest 1
Todt_Von_Oben Posted April 13 Author Posted April 13 LOL! Good stuff there, Andy. Thanks! 👍 One of the things I want to try next is getting myself flamed in an Airco and seeing if I can survive the fire and land it; like one guy did in this video. I've always complained that pilots last too long in the fireball; but this is one instance where I'm thinking I'll be happy with it. We shall see... 😎
