Friendly fire incidents with friendly AI

Far too many times have I been on the tail of an enemy, only for a friendly AI to start firing from behind me at the target, completely disregarding the fact that they are hitting me more than the enemy! Is there a way to stop this, and if not, please fix this! It's driving me insane because I either get shot down and have to restart the mission, or have to return to base early because of damage.

Does anyone else experience this?

It used to be quite bad some years ago, but right now it's not a problem for me. I think that they improved it.

It's definitely still an issue.

Yep, I agree. It happens pretty consistently to me at least

In my experience, the AI just loves to shoulder-shoot.  So I just try to stay away from any enemy aircraft that have friendly AI AC chasing it.  It's best just to go find something else to do.  They're just incompetent in that scenario and can't be trusted.

Or you can use the vertical. The risk is much lower of getting shot by the AI that way.

I get that there are things you can do to minimise the risk of it happening, particularly when you are jumping in on an attack that the AI had initiated, but I still think it's something that should be improved.

Today it happened again, I was minding my own business, I had been chasing an enemy 109 for about 30 seconds when all of a sudden I get hit, I break off and realise it was a friendly again. I shouldn't have to break off the attacks that I started because of getting hit by a friendly, is the point I am trying to make.
