Hypothetical Forgotten Battles 2.0 Series

Hi everyone I would like to know if anyone would be interested in a Continuation War module in the new series after Korea and the Pacific. I know that there is going to be the Karelian map for Great Battles, and you have a right to question yourself as to why I would be suggesting something like this, especially when the Karelian map has not been released. Well I have two good reasons as to why I think this would be a good investment.

Firstly, work on Great Battles is going to be canned in a year or so. There are not going to be anymore maps or collector planes after Siege and Liberation (aside from the rumoured B-239 Buffalo and the G.50). This is a problem for pilot career because this means that we will not be getting all of the essential aircraft that is needed to make a complete pilot career mode and since they are not doing any other places on the Soviet-Finnish Front other than Southern Karelia and Leningrad. Places like Murmansk and Viena Karelia. Please don’t get me wrong, as I am aware that these people are volunteering their a lot of their time, money and resources into making this product for us so I am very grateful for this.

Secondly, Great Battles is dated in comparison to the new series. I think once people know about and get used to better flight, systems and damage modelling, and better visuals and sound effects only those with nostalgia are going to want to keep playing Great Battles. I believe people will want newer, better, and upgraded versions of the pre-existing Great Battles modules, as well as those from the early IL-2 1946 and the later Cliffs of Dover, once the Pacific and some other new theatre (let’s say the Mediterranean) are done. And by then, once Korea, and the Pacific and (let’s assume) Mediterranean theatres are finished, enough time would have passed for them to finally get started on reiterating their historic products as they have sales to fall back on if their reiterated products fail to turn a profit.

How I would envision IL-2 doing the Continuation War is to do it in 3 volumes all of which would share a huge common map of the entirety of Finland and Karelia. Each volume would focus on a specific year of the war, from 1941 to 1944 and each volume would offer 8 to 10 aircraft. 1941-42 would probably be the best place to start with introducing all the best known planes that fought in the Finnish Air Force (like the B-239 Buffalo; G.50; D.XXI, Blenheim Mk.I; for example). Then it would go to 1942-43, which would offer lesser known aircraft. Lastly there would be the 1943-44 volume which would cover the last year and a bit of the war and have the most modern aircraft that were in the Finnish and Soviet Air Forces. But that’s just how I see it going.

As I have told you now repeatedly, we have years and years of work already planned, and the team is quite aware of what theaters people want to see.
