Cardolan Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Which one is better, what are the pros and cons of each one? From having CoD and seeing pictures of WotR it seems to me the former has better graphics, but otherwise, I am at a loss to make a decision if I should buy WotR. Are there any other sims on the market that portray the BoB in a good way (big plus if they have a dynamic campaign included)? Thanks for enlightening me!
paul_leonard Posted April 1 Posted April 1 (edited) BoBII is/was a great game, but stopped working after Windows7. There is/was a Win10 patch but it was inconsistent. The guys who develop Wings over the Reich have put a lot of love and sweat into it, and I purchase every upgrade as I believe they deserve the support... and it is pretty darn good. But I think their real strength is the Wings Over Flanders Field franchise. Why not buy both? Wings over the Reich base game is $20 USD and Cliffs of Dover Blitz is $13 CAD. It won't break you bank. BoBII is a little more risky at $20 USD for a game that may not work at all. Edited April 1 by paul_leonard 2

But there is still a lot of work there it is a newer project. Mainly sounds, and a lot of other unfinished business. But what I can recommend is Wings Over Flanders Field. (WWI) it is their huge work and is still expanding with new planes, improvements to dynamic campaigns, units, weather, etc. I really hope that they could put together the Italian Front 1915-1918 half of the planes, maybe even more are already in the game ... 1
Cardolan Posted April 2 Author Posted April 2 (edited) Thanks all for the replies. I'll eventually buy WotR together with the Battle of France expansion. As far as WW1, it is not my preferred setting, but who knows about the future? Final question if someone knows about it... are there plans for WotR to be expanded with new scenarios or was the Battle of France a one of a kind? Thanks again! Edited April 2 by Cardolan

Did you mean Cliffs of Dover Blitz or BoBII? If BoBII I'll re-install it and try it out. It's been a long time.

Too many "simulations" these days conflate "details" with realism. Adding more details just makes the game a buggy mess that never gets fixed and relies on content injection like a heroin junkie, the more content injected into the player base, the worse the problem gets. Nobody even notices half of these "details", they're superfluous. BoB II WoV was a revolutionary title. Bringing enough details into the mix to make flying interesting, providing a voluntary strategic layer to gameplay and remaining simple enough to allow the realism of having hundreds of aircraft on screen at a time with plausible and challenging AI. I'd rather dial back on the details and have a playable, believable experience than a high fidelity tech demo. 1 1
paul_leonard Posted April 4 Posted April 4 You and me both. But there do seem to be more people who enjoy the tech demo end a la DCS, and then there are those who want it all. No right answer, yet Cliffs survives and BoB 2 has faired worse.

Bit scathing IMO. DCS is a good sim. Could it be better, of course. 1
