Dear friends,

Today we will continue to tell you about the development of our new module - Odessa and Leningrad - Siege and Liberation. Last time we told you about the development of the Odessa map, today we will show you how the development of the Gulf of Finland map is going. We also share with you the details of the new aircraft coming with this module.

Thanks!
The Odessa map and Karelia map both seems to be excellent. The Finnish team did a great job!

I only expected the series 9 with 1x UBS and 1x 20mm. What I did not expect from the initial announcement months ago was that they also include a later version with 2x UBS and 20mm. Great!

It is really good to see the cooperative work between 1C and the 3rd party enthusiast developers. I am hoping this will continue well into the future so that more maps/battle scenarios can be created in TGBS. This is a day one purchase for me. Love the History lesson it will embark me on to know the time frames and struggles that occured in this obscured, at least to me, theater. :popcorm:

I'm all in for this one.  I'm planning on a lot of seat time in the I-153.

I would like a map of Murmansk, which was once worked on. Kurland would be welcome too. Just my dreams 😇

What a great update! Those maps look beautiful, and the new aircraft as well, can’t wait to fly them!

I wonder what timeframe for Siege of Leningrad will be. It will be in two parts? Pre battle of Moscow and after battle of Kuban? Or it will take longer period and overlap other modules? Or separate career which will cover entire, or the most of the Siege of Leningrad like in IL-2 1946?

🤔

It will be 1941 and 1944 for both maps, so there might be some overlap with preexisting careers. 1941 Leningrad careers might spill over a bit into 1942.

I think there's no talk about those in the DD 'cause they're 3rd party planes.

Have a nice day.

Is the gap in the career for Karela to save on implementation time or something? Fighting didn't move much beyond the proposed map area as I recall, but I may be off on that.

Yes, it would be a lot more work to code in a 4-year campaign, given the units still came and went and changed aircraft.

How likely would a third party team invest their time and money into making one long continuous pilot career mode? What would they have to consider?

It's not a question of money or time.

According to our current rules we'll never make such a long career. The 8 planes that will be included in this project are completely unsuitable for 1943, and to play in this period you'll need planes from our other projects (BoS, BoK and some separate collector planes). For owners of only "Siege and Liberation' this situation is completely unacceptable.

Couldn't be later added something like career extension for BoS and BoK owners? Which would add no new aircraft, just allow BoS and BoK use Leningrad map in mid war period with aircrafts from BoS an BoK? For price of standard scripted campaign or half of price of the other modules? Not sure if it would be possible, or if it sounds stupid even...but I would buy it. :scratch_one-s_head:Owners of all eastern front modules could do iron man Leningrad survival challenge that way. 😅

Any good performance numbers for the I-153 version we will be getting?

I don't have the numbers in front of me but the experience I've had is that it's like flying an I-16, except that it's much more capable as a ground attacker and does have the option of a slightly more powerful engine.

It is far more stable and you have more controle in critical flight situations than with the I-16

There is probably going to be an experience like that with pwcg! 😀

Question.

Why couldn’t they build the IL-4 for IL-2 Great Battles? It was a very important bomber of the Red Air Force.

Also, are there different variants/sub variants of the IL-4?

Also, why couldn’t they make the A-20G for Great Battles? The A20G would definitely have fitted in well in the 1943-44 era Eastern Front modules.

This isn't the topic for those sort of questions.

With the upcoming Odessa map, will it be possible to change the existing "Japan" faction that is not currently used to "Romania" and make it playable? They were a separate Axis country with a major offensive to consider in the Siege of Odessa.

I actually agree whole heartedly with you. I would think for a newbie to Great Battles this would be misleading. I know that they were originally planning to do the Eastern Front first and then go to the Pacific but things didn't go according to plan. But yeah, I agree with you, having a Romanian faction should be considered.

*PS, I was hoping once that a third party would take Great Battles to Burma, but I know that nobody will be willing to work with outdated software equipment, especially when there will be something better, from my understanding.

I know what you mean. But, I have sworn that I would not make or contribute to making comments about the non existence of Great Battle's future beyond Karelia and Odessa. Tempting but I'm a man of my words.

They only recently introduced four new factions just for the purpose of online tournaments (Red/Yellow/Green/Blue Team) so that tells me there isn't any hardcoded limit and introducing new countries itself isn't that much work. Which leads me to believe that the reason they won't add a Romanian country is twofold:

- Implementing the radio calls would be a huge undertaking.

- Likewise would research for medals and promotions for the dynamic campaign.

Both are, to my knowledge, fully moddable. So if there's a group of Romanians with some time to spare, who knows...

These maps which seem to be excellent plus additional planes will give a boost to Il2 GB.

Fantastic what the teams are doing. 👍
