The Last flight out of Stalingrad

January 23, 1943. German forces in the pocket are now on the brink of collapse. Tatsinskaya has fallen to Soviet hands forcing the Luftwaffe to do supply drops further out as far as Stalino which is 500 miles away. or closer air bases such as Novocherkassk which is only 222 miles away but it is also dangerously close to the ever expanding Soviet front. Leutnant Steffen Steiner is temporarily attached to KG55. Will fly one of the final flights to the pocket. For after today. The men in the pocket will forever be cut off from the out side world...

 

(NOTE: The starting airfield in game is Tatsinskaya but in real life the Germans were pushed back another 100 miles to the west to the town called Novocherkassk. The real last flight came out from this base)

Very cool! I like how you edited it so that both your pilot and the historical last pilot took off from the Stalingradskaya airfield.

 

 

I am actually not sure this is the real Stalingradskaya the developers had in mind, because reports indicate it should be closer to Gumrak. I tried to make my own airfield there, but it was very hard to make a good landing, so I used this one instead. A picture of the real Stalingradskaya is very similar to how the airfield looks in-game, so it might be that either my source was wrong about its placement or the developers were. It's only about 1 km wrong, so no big deal!
