Sandman3838 Posted March 26 Posted March 26 Afternoon, I'm hoping you all can help. I have the T-Rudders Mk.IV Rudder Pedals Though the brakes are MIA, I like them, and they are great, and metal! However, I'm thinking on upgrading to one of these. - Virpil Flight Pedals - Winwing Orion - Turtle Beach Velocity One (on the list because they expand out) - Any suggestion for another? I'm a big guy, 250lb, 6'3", 14 shoe. I'm not looking for some small, narrow, and plastic flight pedals. Is there anything I should be concerned about with my choices here? Oh, one point, if I do keep my T-Rudders Mk.IV Rudder Pedals what are you all using if your breaks are NOT on the pedals? My setup – VKB - T-Rudders Mk.IV Rudder Pedals VKB - Gladiator NXT EVO ‘WWII Combat Edition’ Thrustmaster TWCS Throttle Thank you all
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) I used to use the T-rudder + TWCS, and I used the paddles on the TWCS as toe brakes, but you don't have to use toe brakes at all if you don't want to. Every plane in this game can be flown using differential braking even if the real plane needed toe brakes. There's also the MFG crosswinds to consider in that price range. I have them and they're very customizable, well-made and easy to adjust. The only negative thing I would say about them is the non-109 pedals are 3D printed plastic instead of a higher quality material, but they're clearly advertised as that so it is what it is. Sandman3838 Posted March 27 Author Posted March 27 MERCS=JenkemJunkie - Thank you sir Using the "I used the paddles on the TWCS" great idea As for MFG... totally forgot about those guys. 1
Flying_Colander Posted March 27 Posted March 27 (edited) Don't forget to check out Slaw Device. I've had mine for a decade and they'll keep going for decades more. The Slaw Device is built like a tank of solid metal. An investment for sure but well worth it. https://slawdevice.com/en/ https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/01/want-high-end-flight-sim-pedals-put-500-in-a-polish-bank-account-and-contact-slaw/ Edited March 27 by Flying_Colander 1
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted March 27 Posted March 27 I have Slaw Dora, heard great about Virpil ACEs but they were replaced by new design, which I don't like - half foot.
spreckair Posted March 27 Posted March 27 I only have experience with the MFG Crosswinds, but after using them for three years, I can say that they are really great pedals and I doubt that I will be buying another set for a very long time. Also, I created my very own "Croc-Mod", which make these the most comfortable pedals ever made!😉 1 2 1
Aapje Posted March 27 Posted March 27 To be honest, I would suggest sticking with the VKB pedals and using the rocker on the TWCS as brakes, unless you also plan to replace the TWCS. You would be spending a lot of money for relatively little gain otherwise. And if I had your setup, then the first thing to replace would be the TWCS, for example, by the STECS. It was a huge upgrade for me. You only use toebrakes while on the ground, but the better throttle is a huge benefit for the entire flight. However, once you do that, you lose the rocker, of course. A way to mimic brakes is to use the twist-function of the Gladiator as brakes. Another way is to set up virtual toebrakes like so: 1
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted March 27 Posted March 27 That's a good point, it's important to ask yourself why are you upgrading. As someone who went from T-Rudder to Crosswinds if your expecting to play better you'll be disappointed, but that's not why I bought them. I bought them because I was tired of making the helicopter pedal movements, and wanted something with good quality and that would have me making the realistic pedal movements, so I was happy with the upgrade. They're more fun.
1CGS LukeFF Posted March 28 1CGS Posted March 28 You really can't go wrong with any of the rudder pedal choices out there right now - they are all high quality, so it really comes down to what you want with your pedals. Me, personally, I have the Crosswinds and have been using them with the P-51 footrests and the optional damper for years and couldn't be happier. The only way I'd replace them at this point is if someone releases something with force feedback.
Aapje Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Well, you can even mod the Crosswinds to have FFB. But Winwing announced that they will come out with factory-made FFB rudder pedals this year.

Still your video suggestion from above "mimic brakes" might do the trick

This, instead brake with toes, just brake with... fingers. 😁 Of the ones listed Virpil R1 - Falcon, seems a more solid option, this line of pedals has been in development for years, more 10 If I remember correctly. 1
69th_Panp Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I've had and been using MFG for years (serail number 0067) never had a problem with them and have always been very precise! Software is fairly easy to use and if you need any support Milan will always respond. well worth the investment. I recently set up another flight sim PC for my daughter and purchased a version 3 serial number 20847 for it. If you look at the gap in serial numbers, you can tell how long I've had the first set of pedals 😄 Hummmm maybe I should have kept the new ones for me and gave her the old ones 🤔🤣 Anyway, the price is fair, quality is great and precision is awesome 1

Yes, I am going to keep an eye on that. I bought their FCU for A320 flying in MSFS and am very happy with it. They just need to give their configuration software a major facelift.
jollyjack Posted April 6 Posted April 6 I still like the crosswinds, but i had my Warthog throttle's axis button modded with Deltasim's button, and still use that most as it works fine if you dont need L-R breaking. Just came to think of this ... i figured out using macros with my Steelseries Apex Pro keyboard. You can program that for L-R breaking.

On my to get list once I've digested the cost of my Rhino with the bigger motors. 1
[CPT]Crunch Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Whatever you grab get a set that has or supports the dampening kits, like a whole new level in rudder goodness. 1
