Online mod importing/white listing?

Any chance of being able to import mods online like maps, models, textures, etc., or to be able to whitelist changes to existing entities? The best way I've seen it implemented is in the online VR shooter Contractors. In that game if you join a modded room it automatically downloads the files you need when you join, so no one can give the excuse that they were too lazy to copy/paste some files into a folder.

It could be used for blasphemies like dogfighting over Night City, adding the missing Yak 9 cannons or strafing teletubbies, but also the historical people always seem to be missing some type of set piece, so it's something all types of players could benefit from, and would help improve the appeal and longetivity of the game.

I agree, we need enhanced/more selective modding capabilities for Korea. Servers need to be able to centrally allow/disallow certain files to be modded, without it being all or nothing. Better yet (like you say): the mods run on the server, instead of on the client.

Most should be server side yeah for obvious cheating reasons, but some exceptions would be nice for the more innocent ones. Like how in DCS we can mod our personal cockpit textures client side and pass the IC, but can't mod maps, enemies, weapons etc. client side and pass the IC.

I agree. An IC method would be great (I wish ground textures would be included in it though).

Not going to happen, teams way too small and they'd be swamped full time with fixing bugs they never created.  It's a massive headache when mods are out of control and usually leads to a much faster decline of a game like 46 IL-2.  Maybe toward the end of life as Great Battles is beginning to do now.

It's not their job to fix user mods, one of the first troubleshooting things that's asked of people is to uninstall mods, and if that fixes the issue than 1C is off the hook. The single player community (which is supposedly much larger) is already running wild with mods, so why would giving extra modding powers to the smaller multiplayer community be too big of a problem when they're already handling that situation with the larger community? It could also potentially lessen 1C's work load (and whining), as player's could make fixes/changes themselves instead of bugging 1C to use their own devs to fix it, especially when they're just simple .lua changes.

Mods are the only reason 1946 is still alive.

In my opinion the problem with Il2GB is that it is cold and not very engaging compared to the old IL2-1946, let me explain... while the vastness of planes that were present in the 1946 series and I'm talking about the original ones not yet modded, over time an attraction and an engaging attention towards the IL2-46 mods has been created precisely in conjunction with the expansion of the scenarios that unfortunately you don't want for one thing or another the Il2GB... So I think that yes, I agree with you on the fact of the decline of Il2GB, but I can't say the same about "IL2 Sturmovik 1946" if we only look at how long the old toy has been around all the other flight simulators both new and old generation are quite amateurish... without going into the merits, the old Il2 came out way back in 2001 today we are in 2025 and there is a whole world that hasn't abandoned it, a sign that many times it is not a purely visual game or a realistic question of a product that makes the difference is its market, but it is also and above all its flexibility and versatility in following step by step the evolution of events and time...

You are right. Youtuber "Fishyyy" proves this point frequently. I haven't played Il-2 1946 for a long time, but remember it very fondly (and enjoy watching his and other's "films"). Without VR and a big multiplayer scene, there is just no going back though.

All things considered, GB is a great sim too and has a lot of planes/scenarios these days at a much higher level of fidelity. It has become the spiritual successor to 1946 after all these years and I look forward to playing it for many more. Mods/3rd part add-ons could continue expanding and improving GB, so I hope the team considers allowing/supporting it (at least until they release competing titles).

You don't need VR to fully enjoy any flight sim...

It's not needed for everyone, but I wouldn't touch a flight sim without VR even if it was perfect, not counting no VR.
