alphagamer1981 Posted March 21 Posted March 21 Due to the engine torque pulling the planes to the left What is everyones best setting for the rudder trim for the spitfire and the mosquito for taking off?
Jaegermeister Posted March 21 Posted March 21 There is a whole thread about that here... 25% right rudder as recommended in the manuals works best. Trim for a level slip indicator once in stable flight. You still might have to use brakes or more rudder to get moving straight down the runway.
alphagamer1981 Posted March 21 Author Posted March 21 thank you does that work for both mosquito and spitfire? Both are different sizes and weights
ZPA_Malan Posted March 21 Posted March 21 100% right rudder trim for Merlin spitfires, think the griffon ones torque the other way 1
-TBC-AeroAce Posted March 23 Posted March 23 I really don't feel rudder trim is needed for take off in this sim as the forces are quite tame. I will actively use pedals on take off and then relax pressure as you accelerate. I generally don't like touching rudder trim unless damaged because if you are constantly adjusting it, it increases mental workload, and you can get into situations where you are not sure how you are trimmed and make mistakes. Imo much better to keep one setting and get a natural feel in your feet for what rudder deflection you need for different speed and power settings.
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 23 Posted March 23 (edited) A lot of trimming isn't necessary in sims because there is no aerodynamic feedback in our control set up Sim pilots don't have fatigued legs from standing on the rudder as speed increases. We just push against a light weight spring. There is no increase in force needed to use the rudder pedals going from sitting still on the ramp to diving at 400+ mph. Edited March 23 by BlitzPig_EL
Ace_Pilto Posted April 3 Posted April 3 Don't forget to check the wind and dial in aileron input into the wind when required. A lot of people miss that.
