1CGS LukeFF Posted March 7 1CGS Posted March 7 Dear friends, it's time to unveil another innovation in our Korea project. For this purpose, we are going to descend from the skies to the ground once again and tell you what targets await virtual pilots on its muddy terrain. In the previous dev blogs, we have already shown you artillery guns with functioning crews that perform the whole process of loading and firing, as well as the variety of trucks and their possible loads and objects they can pull. Today we are going to tell you about something never seen before in the IL-2 series: functional infantry. The full blog entry can be found here: https://il2-korea.com/news/dd_25 11 1 3
[CPT]Crunch Posted March 7 Posted March 7 Long requested, thanks for developing this, huge leap ahead in air war simulation for the ground assault side. 1
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Put me in a Pershing or a Centurion and I will be a very happy camper. 2
Avimimus Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Well that answers my question about mortars! I'm excited by the inclusion of infantry - imagine what a difference that tech could make for a future WWI or Tank Crew scenario! It'd be more than a dream come true if they could somehow transfer the infantry tech back to Great Battles/Flying Circus - I'd gladly pay for such an upgrade. Interesting hint at the end of this development update as well... I'm not sure what else they could announce at this point? Maybe just a discussion of armoured vehicles (as logistics vehicles are announced but discussion of armour hasn't been as extensive)? Maybe they've taken our observations about the importance of horses/mules to transportation during Korea? Maybe some information about ships (I hope they include flooding damage - currently in Il-2 RP-3 25lb AP rounds and 57mm AP rounds are less effective than SAP/HE rounds as waterline hits have no effect)? Maybe something else? I'm having trouble of thinking about other things they could announce. Perhaps a player controllable bicycle to sight-see with? 1 1
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted March 8 Posted March 8 (edited) I hope they do put brush in mission editor to remove / knead the grass (trampled grass, earth) or does it automatically with unit placement, so that the area where infranty operate does not look artificially perfect with grass not damaged . Mysticpuma Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Interesting comment on Facebook from the Devs: The question was: "Also does this mean there is the open possibility of IL-2 Korea, or The Pacific, coming out with something similar to DCS: Combined Arms, where we can control these new squads and give them proper directional orders alongside us controlling tanks?" The reply: "Maybe. We want to do another iteration of Tank Crew if everything works out". I am not sure if another tank crew would be a hard sell as the first one feels pretty much abandoned from the comments? 1
=MERCS=JenkemJunkie Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Very nice, these infantry could help provide interesting ground targets for the red planes that lack bombs and rockets. 11 hours ago, Avimimus said: Interesting hint at the end of this development update as well... I'm not sure what else they could announce at this point? We haven't seen the infantry be killed yet. Do they disappear, ragdoll, bleed, etc.?

1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted March 9 Posted March 9 How does death animation look compared to rest detailed animation, it would be nice if individual soldiers not just disappear but actually react to different calibers.
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Gents, we need to be cautious about feature creep. Or has the hive mind here totally forgotten about the failure of Cliffs of Dover? 1 1
Vishnu Posted March 9 Posted March 9 OOOO do tell! I wasn't privy or aware of such a problem! Enquiring minds want to know!
LuftManu Posted March 9 Posted March 9 As soon as Infantry can be disabled, we can ommit blood and other features IMO. Just make it so we can see it from the skies or in a tank a hundred meters away Lovely animations too! 1
R33GZ Posted March 9 Posted March 9 Any ideas on how having detailed moving infantry will affect performance? Are they battalion strength as the Chinese attacked with towards the end of the war? I find the infantry in GB totally destroys performance for me. Just an observation, not a complaint. It would be a shame to have such lovely detail only to never use it because it's not practical. 1
CzechTexan Posted March 10 Posted March 10 I can now see infantry scrambling up a hill and fighter-bombers attacking them. Wipe 'em out for mission success! I'm getting more excited about this Korea thing.
