kalerider1 Posted March 3 Posted March 3 Hi all Just installed BOSp for first time and when I run the game fullscreen I get occasional artifacts in bands across screen and the screen also goes black for a second or two before displaying normally again. It keeps doing this intermittently. This doesn't happen if I run the game in windowed mode. I've already tried turning off freesync in my monitor and turning off gsync on Nvidia control panel. I've updated the Nvidia driver to latest version. Other games are running full screen without any issues. I'm a bit stumped as to what is causing this? Specs: GTX1070, 4770K, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 64bit
kalerider1 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 I don't get any issue in other games and doesn't happen when I set to windowed in IL2 BOSp

Even an apparently minor change in graphics settings can sometimes push a specific component over the edge.
kalerider1 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 Max temp shown in HWMonitor for GPU is 59c. Normal for this GPU. Thanks for taking time to try to help though.
kalerider1 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 (edited) Hi all Sorry I posted the below in the wrong section of the forum. My bad. Still looking for a solution. Hi all Just installed BOSp for first time and when I run the game with fullscreen checked I get occasional white speckle artifacts horizontally across screen and the screen also randomly goes black for a second or two before displaying normally again. It keeps doing this intermittently. This doesn't happen if I don't run the game in fullscreen mode (unchecked Fullscreen box and set to native resolution). I've already tried turning off freesync in my monitor and turning off gsync on Nvidia control panel. I've updated the Nvidia driver to latest version. GPU temps perfectly normal. Other games are running full screen without any issues. I'm a bit stumped as to what is causing this? Specs: GTX1070, 4770K, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 64bit Edited March 3 by kalerider1 extra info
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 3 Posted March 3 You are apparently pushing a 4K monitor with a 1070? What resolution are you running the sim at in it's settings?
kalerider1 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 No no I'm running 1080p on a 1080p monitor. 😄 A Viewsonic VX2768. I think it has something to do with the monitor settings as changing response times, frequency etc seems to have some effect. Doesn't stop it altogether though. So it may just be a coincidence. I've been playing with Fullscreen unchecked and that has been fine so far. It's got me perplexed though.
kalerider1 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 (edited) I notice that in full screen my fps in the menu is above 150-160. Fullscreen unchecked is max 120 (same as my monitor refresh rate). Thought this may be a clue so I restricted fps rate in fullscreen using nvidia control panel to less than 120. Problem still persists though. I've tried all combinations of vsync in nvidia control panel as well as changing monitor refresh rate, switching gsync off/on etc. Still no joy in fullscreen. Sticking with fullscreen unchecked for now, with gsync on and all works ok. Would be good to understand why it happens in this game though... Edited March 4 by kalerider1
kalerider1 Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 Ok. One last try. I think the issue is related to a refresh rate mismatch between the game and my monitor. My monitor is supposed to be capable of max 165hz - however it's always performed better in 144hz (no flickering). So this is set in windows advanced display properties to 144hz (and also set in nvidia control panel - and shows correctly in my monitor menu settings as 144hz). However the game FPS counter still goes up to 165 when in fullscreen (and i get random black screen/flickering). If I run in windowed mode the game respects the max refresh rate and fps is limited to that (and so no flickering) I've searched online and several people have noticed this and asked how the game can be made to respect the refresh rate set in windows when in fullscreen. Unfortunately no one has answered any of them ☹️ Does anyone know how I can set the max refresh rate for the game?
kalerider1 Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 (edited) This is currently set to 60. Still goes up to 165 in fps counter in the menu. I think it's the refresh rate the game is detecting rather than fps output. It doesn't seem to recognise that I've set refresh rate of monitor 144hz and is instead detecting monitors max avalable refresh rate.... unles i run in windowed mode then it detects correctly. 🤔 Edited March 4 by kalerider1 more info
No_85_Gramps Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Ok, I'm stumped. In your NVIDIA settings there should be an option to set the Preferred Refresh Rate. You could try changing them to see if that helps. I really can't think of anything else that could be the source of the problem.
kalerider1 Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 I'm stumped too XD I tried setting Preferred Refresh Rate as well (only option is highest available or app controlled) - neither set refresh rate correctly. I'm just playing with fullscreen unchecked for now. All working ok. I've spent more time troubleshooting than playing! Thanks anyway. 1
