1CGS LukeFF Posted February 28 1CGS Posted February 28 Hello everyone! Today we can show you the Il-10 attack aircraft — the successor of the famous Il-2, the aircraft that gave its name to our simulator series. The full text can be found here: https://il2-korea.com/news/dd_24 15 2 4
tattywelshie Posted February 28 Posted February 28 Interesting aircraft, she looks like a right brute!
310_cibule Posted February 28 Posted February 28 It was produced under license in Czechoslovakia after the WWII too. 1200 were assembled there as B-33. Czechoslovak pilots called it a combine harvester : ) 3 1
Jade_Monkey Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I didn't know it was that much faster. Level of details in the 3D model and textures is amazing, really looking forward to the release of Korea 3 1
FeuerFliegen Posted March 1 Posted March 1 I also had no idea it would be that much faster. Apparently there was a version with 4x 23mm? Will we have that as an option? With having two less bomb bays, can it still carry six 100kg bombs? Or would it be less bombs, such as two 250kg and two 50kg?
BlitzPig_EL Posted March 1 Posted March 1 It's mind boggling that it was initially developed as an interceptor. 1

The 4x23mm version is the Il-10M - produced in very small numbers and never deployed to Korea (it was actually produced during the end of the Korean War). This website has a bit of information (I suspect that the options might be 4x100kg or 2x250kg): Il-10 My questions: - Were Korean aircraft ever equipped with rockets? - Did they ever use small bomblets in the bomb-bays? - Were any of them equipped with the AG-2 defensive system (which would be a lot of fun to try to use against jets)!

Avimimus Posted March 2 Posted March 2 It is interesting that the Il-2 and Il-10 were both based on armoured fighter designs. It might not be so mind boggling. Bombers are slow, but they have defensive gunners. So being able to approach them in an armoured, cannon armed, platform makes a lot of sense. The issue is that larger "Zerstörer" or "Sturmovik" type interceptors are quite vulnerable to single-seat fighters - and when long range single-seat types appeared they were no longer effective interceptors in the daytime. The other issue is that bombers started flying higher - something which was avoided during the interwar period for fuel efficiency and bombing accuracy. However, it was quickly realised that altitude provided protection from anti-aircraft guns and also made formations difficult to intercept if they weren't detected in time. So, climb rate became a priority for interceptors. The Mosquito took this to an extreme. But, even with those trends we still see German single-seat fighters receiving considerable armour upgrades for attacking bombers during the war. In fact the Fw-190A8/A9 often had 5mm-10mm of armour around the cowling and cockpit (compared to the 5mm-12mm in the Il-2 and the 4mm-8mm of armour in the Il-10).
kestrel79 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 Always loved the look of the IL-10. Very sleek. This will probably be my ride of choice when flying red.
