MRFRITZ44 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 After years of having ROF I decided to reinstall it and try out some of the mods. I downloaded the mods in the screenshot and don't think they're working. I have the Allow Mods setting checked, and I also changed mission_text_log = 1 in the Startup.cfg. I've modded plenty of other games using JSGME and know that these issues are usually caused by the incorrect locations of various files. Here's what I have so far: Base directory that JSGME.exe and MODS directory live in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rise of Flight 2.0\data This seems odd and I would usually consider my base directory to be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rise of Flight 2.0, but this didn't work either. The thing is, before I copied the PWCGRoF 3.3.2 mod into the base directory, the only directories that existed there were: bin_console bin_editor bin_game bin_viewer This is odd to me as there were no .exe or other data files in this location. Anyone care to venture a theory on why I'm so confused by these mods? Could it be because I have the Steam version of Rise of Flight United installed? Thanks in advance for any help, MrFritz
czech693 Posted February 23 Posted February 23 (edited) JSGME and the MODS folder should not be in the data folder. They should be in the main Sim folder with bin, data, gui, etc. The .exe file is in the bin_game folder. PWCG should also be in the main sim folder. Edited February 24 by czech693 1
MRFRITZ44 Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 Thanks. I'll give it another shot. Question, is that data directory in your screenshot from the game or a copy from the PWCG mod itself?
MRFRITZ44 Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 (edited) Is there a way to see in the game which mods are actually activated? I'm really not sure that I've got everything lined up correctly for modding the game at this point. PWGE is a whole different matter as I know I am still not seeing the button from the main screen. Below are screenshots of my primary ROF directory as well as the MODS directory. Then you can see the mods I downloaded and enabled. When I go into the game I can't tell if anything has been modded! I've had little trouble modding other games using JSGME so I'm a bit stumped at the moment. Edited March 1 by MRFRITZ44
czech693 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Your picture of the MODS folder shows a bunch of compressed zips at the bottom. Those wouldn't be in there. They should be unzipped outside of the MODS folder and the folder from inside the zip installed into the MODS folder.
MRFRITZ44 Posted March 2 Author Posted March 2 Agree. I keep them there for convenience and haven't found them to be an issue in the past. I do have a lot of ground mods installed and suspect I'm just not seeing them because I'm at altitude all the time. Still, there should be some contrasting change that shows I modded correctly. Out of my installed list, is there a "game changer" mod I don't have the I should that would also confirm my mods are actually working? Thanks very much for the multiple replies BTW....
Zooropa_Fly Posted March 3 Posted March 3 The 'wildflower' mod - go sniffing around an AF at ground level and you should see them.. or not. Not on your list, but the 'reduced rate of fire' mod(s) will be obvious, if you can find them to DL. S!
MRFRITZ44 Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 Yep, no dice on the wildflowers. I also tried another version of JSGME and put it into this directory per the instructions to put the JSGME.exe and ini files into the same directory as the games executable: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rise of Flight 2.0\bin_game\release Still no dice! This is aggravating. I notice that czech693 has a much different directory structure than my Steam versiion of the game. Can any Steam ROF owners please paste screenshots of your directory structure with successful JSGME modding?
czech693 Posted March 4 Posted March 4 (edited) I do have some games stored in Steam/steamapps/common. You picture of your folder layout looks right. The ROF.exe file will be in the bin_game/release folder. You should be able to start the sim from that. Also, in the bin_game/release folder is Settings.exe. That is your Launcher app. Where did the Rise of Flight folder get the 2.0 nomenclature? I have two versions, Iron Cross and United Edition, but neither calls out 2.0. Edited March 4 by czech693
MRFRITZ44 Posted March 4 Author Posted March 4 Not sure how I ended up with the path I have and I gave up on JSGME in frustration. I just copied the mods directly into the data folder and overwrote when asked. I know that based on some of the messages I received that I applied some mods and then overwrote them with others, but I can now see a real difference in the terrain and clouds. I'll likely screw around with reapplying the AI mod for example to be sure it wasn't nixed by another mod, but at least I have a path forward. I'm just not sure why JSGME gave me so much trouble this time when I've not had it in the past?
