Total newbie question regarding RPM/Throttle

I've been flying online flight sims since Air Warrior in 1994 so I know how irritating it is to get a question that's been answered 1000s of times before, as I suspect this has. But despite a lot of searching and asking Chat-GPT I can't find an answer to this.

 

In my settings I have 'engines throttle control' set to an axis on my throttle. I have 'propeller RPM control' set to another axis. (The two throttles axis_z and axis_t on the TM Warthog throttle.)

 

But the RPM still moves with the throttle, and the RPM control is ignored.

 

Any ideas? Sorry again if this comes up all the time, I couldn't find it.

What airplane are you flying?

I haven't settled on one but let's say Spit 9 for example.

When do you notice this? During taxi or flying at low speeds with little throttle applied the RPM doesn't reach the value it was set on the propeler lever. Could that be the case? If yes, try to see the behaviour at higher thottle situations and/or higher speed.

 

But if you notice this on german airplanes I can tell you that most of them have automatic RPM control.

In the options I believe there is something for Simple Engine Management (might be a slightly different name). Make sure to turn that off and you will get full engine controls back.

OK, it turns out there are three difficulty settings, Easy, Normal and Expert. Turning on Expert gives me independent control of the RPM.

 

But it also turns on loads of other stuff I'd rather turn on one at a time (like no icons, IFF) as I am ready for them. Is that possible?

 

The answer is to use Custom difficulty. Problem solved. Thanks everyone.
